20230217_132830.jpg.5838c170d7537f52fa9f23dc0bf54bf8.jpgSo many white kitchens lately....this one is nickel fusion.

I just ordered the same color for our kitchen.   My wife wants me to make an island on casters.   Just have to figure out how to make them not industrial looking.

The bases for island are being built with no toe kick so are 6 weeks out. The rest of the boxes will be here in about 2 weeks.   We ordered the boxes through Master Brand and seem like decent quality.  (At least I hope they are)

I haven't hung a kitchen in over 30 years so this will be an adventure.

I'm looking forward to that adventure Dave, and hope you show us how it goes.

One of my nephews' built one like you mention, for his aunt. Made it out of pallet materials. Two 30" wide single drawer bases with double doors below.  6' long x 36' wide and a stone top. He used a little steel, but hid it and it looks and works great. I have copied his idea.

That look great! :th:

Our new cabinets are due to arrive in a couple weeks. We went with a whitewashed grey to let the wood grain show. Looking forward to seeing them!

Beautiful work.

I wish I had 1/2 the talent you do.

Thanks...just so you know...the cabinets...i just install them..they are all factory built standard sizes and the guys that sell us the cabinets do the design. After fifty years of home building experience, cabinet installs are all i do now. I showed a younger guy that does some of the other finish work here how to install them and he caught on pretty fast . The soffit, crown, and light rail is where most of the work is ...the cutting, test fitting, and fastening of all those pieces. Climbing a bench all day to reach it ....back and forth to the saw and it takes energy.

I find it strange though, that the boxes of moldings that come with the cabinets say made in Vietnam and im not sure what specie of wood.....i know most of them .....truthfully the quality of these cabinets is not that great. The finished end panels have a solid green core of some kind of mdf that i think is real crap whatever it is.

Your work is very clean and I really respect that.    I know what you mean about the up and down.   It takes a toll by the end of each day.

I had 20 cabinets dropped off a couple of days ago and hope I can make them look as clean as your install work.    My biggest problem is our house was built in 1984 and the guy was kind of a hack so there is a lot of prep work just to get ready to hang the boxes.  I have to shake by head and curse every time I tackle a project here.    An example is in picture below.      The builder must have ordered his own counter tops and measured wrong.    I am thinking he read the tape wrong so had to rip out a strip of drywall to make it fit.  (at least I hope that is the problem.  I'll know when I rip out the sink base to patch the drywall.).      I plan on removing from counter top down to floor and replacing the sheet rock to keep the line.

There are 6 more boxes coming and these will be for the moveable island.   They are 2 weeks out as they have to be built without the toe kick.

Fabuwood cabinets I have to deal with often are the exact same. Cracks and slits in stiles, green core skins... Throw in the bad designers and missing parts. Fubarwood  I call them.

I feel ya there. I got an "island" set last week that was badly designed, cracked stiles, chips on panels, not one elevation sheet to work off of, and no trim kit or touch-up kit. The cab.s sit loose on the kitchen floor still. I cant do anything until the issues are straightened out. But I dont like the cabinets. How many stiles do you get that are not flat on the front face? Seems every third cab I can flush top and bottom but not center. So I have to clamp/drill/add a third screw through the middle of the stile to get them right. No reason I should have to do that.
