New travel rod toy. Daiwa Mobile Pack 76MH-B

To continue playing around with things during winter blues.

I picked up a newer version of Daiwa Mobile pack rod from Japan.

It's a 7.5ft MH telescopic in bait casting version.

Classic regular action. A very all purpose action.

Not to whippy, not too stiff.

5 pieces that is all contained internally. Nothing falls out or comes apart.

Comes with a simple rod sleeve and guide protector as seen in pic.

Some guides are fixed onto the blanks for easy alignment and strength. 3 runners are floating where you need to push them into place onto the blank.

Honestly. This is such a fun backpack size rod.

It breaks down to 21 inches.  And in my case, weighs 340gram odd with a reel. The rod itself is 140 grams.  Thats pretty light for a multi piece.

Should be able to cast 10-40grams.

With its slightly stiff tip, it'd be nice for bucktails/shad or little tin jigging stick.

My plan is to keep finding more portable options to either trunk rod, backpack rod, or airplane rod while traveling with kids.  I can't always have 6-8ft one pieces of 5ft two pieces taking up space.

Or maybe use this for those pull off the side of the road and get a few casts in before heading home days.

Nice idea.

To the naysayers,

Yes, I know this isn't exactly like a custom rod, on load the line might touch the blank Yada Yada Yada.  It's not meant to be a purpose made tool to excel at one thing. We all already know that, there's always some tradeoff for a design like this. It doesn't need to be perfect in every way. I don't care about sand getting in the tubes or any of that bs. It costs about $140  (roughly $100-120 + shipping) what more do you want?

So please don't drop those negative comments, it's unnecessary.

I always see people ask about travel rods, items like this might work for you.

They make it from like 6 to 9.5ft spinning versions. Two casting models.  So it's plenty of choices for applications.

Seeing how well this feels and bends.  I might look into the 9ft versions for a nice spinning stick with a 3k reel.

edit- after doing some mock fishing pulls. i like it. going to get the spinner versions.

Also dont mind the fact I got a Morethan 1000 that cost like 4 times the rod on there. Just for test feel.

Hope this helps anyone who's been eyeballing travel rods.

It’s a bit heavier but I’m happy with Daiwa’s Ardito tr, similar specs to your rod, 7’6” MH. I use it for travel and as a beater rod, I’ve caught everything from albies and a 40” bass to smaller jacks to Scottish pike.

I’m hoping to add a chicago River drum to that list pretty soon

I have a blast with my kastking blackhawk. I put it in a backpack and push through the brush to get to a swimhole in the summer. Mine is a spinner so the floating guides really shine. Plenty of modest smallmouth in current and even some small flatheads. On a medium.

Your Daiwa is probably more refined. The reel seat certainly is. Use your  drag and you should be fine. And the tip protector is a must have, don't lose it. Best part is you can leave it rigged up and quickly deploy unlike a sectional.

The Blackhawk made me a believer.,  I may get a 2nd tele in baitcaster because its even more compact.

Solid. Butt walls are 1.5mm. Mid is like 1.3mm thick.  I can measure it when I remove the bottom cap.

Which also allows me to clean then joints.

93% carbon. 7% glass.  It's fit and finished tight.

No creak or noises etc

None of the few telescopics I have or had have ever left me disappointed.

The reel seat is extremely well refined and made.

It's really impressive enough I'd try to salvage it if I had to scrap the rod.

It's a machined aluminum with plastic hood, touch blank with trigger.

Just the seat alone should be worth $40 minimum if you had to buy it separately.

I just ordered 2x 96MH spinners.  Since I have two spare 21 Caldia LT 3000.

Might as well make a combo going for spring bass and summer fluking.

Where u ordering from?

The rod in the OP, sounds perfect to me but I'd need it to be a spinning rod.

Something I could stash under my backseat with a small box of jigs and a pack of Gulp.

Most japan webshops will have it.

It's the 2022 model.

I added a photo of rod list to first post.

They don't have a spinner in 7.5 MH.

But a little lighter ML version.

Got my breezy permit today. Decided to try the rod out.

It's nice.  It'll rocket out 1oz.  I used my tatula hd 150 sh.

Feels great loading up. It should do up to 1.5oz + a little bit.  I only had a 1oz in my pocket.

Cleanup is EASY.

Rod literally fits into the kitchen sink.

Since I updated the spinner thread...

With a morethan 1000, a daiwa 100 size.

The weight can be lower if you use aluminum gear reels. The Morethan uses c6191 bronze.

I can bring it down another 40-50grams but don't find it necessary for SW shore use.

Setup is 358grams with the plastic protector on.  Not bad.

Tech gets better and better.  It's just that alot don't accept it.  Like the 1pc rod enthusiasts.

Modern tech superseded it for a long time already.

Even the blanks are a nice decent  ~1.10mm thick.

That's sturdy enough in my books.

These rods are no different then a rod has  normal push together at the joint.

It's just that they slip the rods in the backside instead.
