Dubbing

So I don't use dubbing when I tie flies, recently I saw some shrimp and crab patterns that required dubbing. I wanted to try the patterns so I purchased some dubbing, I did not look at the dubbing closely I picked it out solely based on the colors it had in it. It's reads on the box, waterproof dry fly, I'm guessing this is the wrong dubbing and can't be used, any info on this, can I use it, or just return it?

if you like the color you can use that.

check out you tube how they use dubing, you can use that on single tred or you can make double tred put dubing in and spin that and wrap around hook.

you can make your own dubing.

get 2 dog brushes and kniting yarn cut to 1/2" to 3/4" pieces put on brush and rip with second brush.

You'll be OK the main difference is it won't absorb water.

Last year on another forum I got into tying some crab and shrimp patterns.

I haven't used dubbing on any crab flies but have on a few shrimp flies.

The bodies are tied with rabbit dubbing.

The pic with 2 flies are actually fishable, the other is... questionable

Actually got carried away as some are more lure making than fly tying...

They all look like flies to me.  The waterproof dubbing wont matter with a saltwater hook, you'll be just fine

I keep forgetting that dubbing materials have expanded into things like the dubbing brush.

I've had to get a few more boxes for the new materials ever few years.
