Move over Trump, you be getting a challenger.

All indications are that Nikki Haley is going to announce she is running for President on Feb 15th.

Let's see what kind of quotes we get from Trump about her.

Let the fireworks begin.

I'll reserve my judgement of her until I see what she's selling for policy and direction.

So this is where it becomes really interesting as far as Trump and competitors go.

The conventional wisdom is that if there are too many GOP contenders that accrues to trumps benefit because the fragmented non-Trump vote will not allow anybody to gain critical mass. However, that works two ways if you stop and think about it.

That is, Trump being Trump means that he has to deploy all of his defensive weapons against the wider cast characters, very similar to 2016. However, Trump in 2023 is not the same as Trump in 2015 or 2016 in that he’s now built up a reputation of being a petulant bully, even among his past and current supporters.

So what that means, with multiple competitors in the field, he will have to start beating up on everyone and start doing it sooner rather than later.  That will tend to only reinforce the petulant bully image in the minds of many, and could make it more difficult for him to gain that critical mass.

On top of that, Trump in 2023 does not feel like trump in 2016. He feels older, a bit out of step, and not as sharp as he was back then, particularly with his quips.

As discussed previously, Rob Desanctimonious was very weak sauce, and Trump has yet to come up with something more effective. Last week he threatened to attack DeSantis on Covid vaccine policy, and the fact that DeSantis changed his views as the facts changed.

I’m not sure Trump has thought that one all the way through and reflected on his own intransigence on changing his view on vaccines. His base today as very mixed views, on vaccines, vaccine mandates, and the pharmaceutical companies, all of them Trump continues to say we’re part of his great plan.

Yup. And his competition are already versed in re-establishing "Trump-era policy" without him present....getting the economic benefit without bloviation & backhandedness. Gonna get interesting

And let's not lose sight of the fact that Haley has an insiders knowledge of Trump behind closed doors.

I'm quite certain she has some interesting tales to tell that would send Trump on a ballistic orbital trajectory.

The R's best hope is that he will somehow be removed by the Legal System.

He is a thorn in the side of the status quo and the career politicians and bureaucrats.

And, he has a massive war chest built up.  At the end of the day, it takes hundreds of millions to run a campaign.

Haley must be believing her own hype. She is the establishment GOP candidate which has been getting less and less powerful and more swampish. GOP voters realize the corruption of the old guard establishment and dislike them almost as much as they hate Democrats. McConnell’s actions through the last election and passing an omnibus bill before the Rep House was sworn in was the final nails in the establishment’s coffin. In 2024 you’ll see a lot of establishment candidate lose.

Haley has zero chance of winning the primaries except SC and NC

Interesting points.   I dont see Haley as having what it takes to win.  Great VP pic though.

She is very well suited to undercut Trump in the Primaries bc of what you both stated and that Nikki is a woman with little political blemishes at this point.  Like it or not (I do) there is a fair amount of underscored chivilary left in the members of the GOP.  Trump supporters and not.

Belittling Little Marco is one thing.  Ugly attacks on a woman will trun off many.

And no, that standard didn't not apply to Hillary who they viewed as a vile succubus and worthy of the disdain.

A lot of non establishment candidates won their primaries and then got their asses handed to them in what was supposed to be a cake walk.

I’m absolutely fine with Trump running again.  I think he’s a liability, but hey, a lot of people still want him.  I look forward to seeing him debate a new field of challengers.

One of the things I’ll be paying attention to is which of these candidates is dumb enough to damage the potential nominees and hurt the candidate in the general election.  Who can focus on issues over childish epithets.

Sadly it will be a food fight like most all political conflicts. Everyone will get dirty.

I was hoping Trump would have switched to Nikki as his VP for his 2020 run.  Looking back now, that may have turned the tide, but who knows?

Another white devil to skewer

Nikki is of Indian (subcontinent) descent.  Long term married, kids, etc.  She is attractive, was a popular governor, a really good UN Ambassador and checks most of the conservative blocks.  She doesn't have a lot of pazazz as a speaker but does have some gravitas.  She also tests well among African Americans though that will change as the Dems tar her.  I like her.  I think she and DeSantis would be unbeatable.

While he called him 'disloyal'

He has missed a chance when he could just be calling him 'Ron Disloyal' at every chance...

Split the field too much and Trump will end up the nominee again...
