Here in Linden NJ for a few months. Was wondering if anyone could help out with areas a gear to get for striper or Bluefish fishing. Any input would be appreciated

NJ is a great place to fish.
Might be tough to get stripers or blues if you are here only  for a couple months especially since the season is closed until March in the back bays.

If you are here into April or past then there will be ample shore bound/ boat opportunities just about anywhere.

Find a jetty , and fish .if no fish walk and cast the beach focusing on troughs/cuts until next jetty … when your tired of fishing find some place with adult beverages … and watch out for the traffic on the parkway … lol lol lol

Agua, hit a tackle shop and tell them you have money to spend there. What to buy but you need help on where & when to hit the water. They need to sell stuff & coach up the new guys while you probably need gear. It’s a win win.

Or, grab your fishing money, flash it around at a fine Jersey gentleman’s club and take your chances on catching fish with lesser gear at random spots!

Welcome to the area! I also live right next to Linden. As far as spots go, it all depends how far you want to drive. There are some river and bay spots within a 25/30 minute drive. I’d invite you out with me but I never catch anything! Lol

Early April things should start to warm up in the bay directly south of you. Someone else mentioned the bays and rivers are closed until March 1st for striper fishing and that’s correct. Not much saltwater action going on until it warms up anyway

Mackerel show up in April, blues are not far behind looking for a good meal, then the stripers show up to clean up the blues mess. However, bluefish have been sporadic the last few years, but last year was better than the last 5 years. A 9 or 10 foot rod with a 5000 sized reel should get you started with a few tins, bucktails (favorite), along with top water poppers. Basic set up. Prefer lures over bait in the spring.
