Use rubber kitchen gloves after leaving an ice pack on the ferrules for a few minutes. Never fails.

I don't know about bamboo rods and the ferrules used specifically, but icing down the ferrule worked for me in the past and didn't take long at all. Couple minutes if I recall correctly.

Living in NJ, I wait until it is in the mid-teens overnight, bring my rods into my garage, and take them apart pretty easily in the morning.

I did it once.....left the rod overnight in a walk in freezer.....

Next morning.....

Piece of cake.....

Icing it works, I use a drop of oil or a squirt of WD40 and a pair of rubber gloves, a good twist does it, never had to resort to ice packs. Grip both halves right at the ferrule to avoid any damage to the blank from torsional twist.

If the rod in question is valuable/collectable and resists the ice method consider this. A bamboo rod most probably will have been built using a nickel silver ferrule. Twisting risks separation of the bamboo which usually is six sections glued together to form the blank. Have a experienced Bamboo Builder remove the stuck ferrule and free or replace it. The older it is the more delicate.

Tried the icing method but it didn't work that good for me . It did come apart but both male an female ferrules are still together on the tip section now but not on the butt section. I guess I'm getting closer but there yet LOL  Bet these ferrules have been together 50 years or more . Any other ideas ??????

Consult a experienced Builder of Bamboo rods. He will probably recommend cutting the ferrule rather than risk damage to the tip section. It's probably nickel silver so it will file and split easily. Whatever you do don't twist the rod if you value it.

Ice may not have worked, but Mother nature may help. Supposed to drop down to single digits Friday night. Try leaving outside overnight with some WD40 or penetrating oil, and see what happens.

Have used this tape technique on both fly and surf rods. It has worked every time.
