Completed this butt extension for my buddy. My friend is 75 and has a un repaired biceps tendon for 30 years for this reason he has not been able to cast any rod greater than a 5 wt . I took his st Croix 9 wt which had been sitting on the shelf for years and added a removable butt extension kit. Maybe he can master two hand overhead cast. This upgrade should make it easier for him. I'm thinking setting him up with an outbound short about 375 grains so he can cast bigger flies to bass. The kits came from proof fly fishing.

Onthefly:  your friend is lucky.... to have you as a friend. And having done a similar thing (albeit differently) two years ago with two 10' 10w salmon rods I have and hadn't fished for more than 20 years, and now using them all the time for striper fishing and really enjoying them, I'm willing to bet your friend will do as well with his "rediscovered" rod. And learning to overhead cast with a TH rod, at least to a level where one enjoys it (which means well enough to reach and catch fish regularly) is easy.

So a tip of the hat to you.

Thanks my friend has been undergoing cancer treatment for prostate as well . Just want him to get on to some better fish than the trout, crappie and sunnies we have been catching the last couple years. This week is his last treatment so hopefully he will be ok for awhile.

There is someone on the west coast that has a web site (*********

com. or similar).Always talking about short extension

rear butts for longer and more comfortable casting.

Certainly makes for more comfortable casting with a SH rod but longer casting with a TH? I think many expert TH casters, among them Mike Oliver, do not share that view.

He's not necessarily looking for long cast like from a beach just wants the ability to cast a bass bug or streamer 70 ft or so . I think using the lower hand will take the load off is bad upper hand which he struggles with on bigger rods. I'll post the results when it comes bass time and we get going on this project. Maybe helpful for others as well with similar arm issues.
