Looking for some first hand reviews of this reel. I’m checking them out

to use on a 12’ 6-10 oz cts surf bait rod this year. Mainly use casting set

ups but want to try the LC spinner out.

I have one that's been my chunker for years.  Paired with a Lami 1321L.

I'm not throwing anything heavy though; 40lb braid & 4oz lead on a High-low rig.

The AR clutch housing is plastic which I had to replace once.  Otherwise, it's a decent reel that's held up.

I have the V7500LC previous version and love it!

The VI isn’t as good in my opinion, because it was one of those transitions, where they start changing things to save money!

The V has the slammer drag system, the VI doesn’t.

I do believe mine is sealed as well, never had it apart, or needed to yet, in over 5 five years!

It’s absolutely been submerged and dunked, more times than I would like to admit and still nice and smooth, as a Penn can be!

I’m willing to bet it’s basically one of those marketing hype things, IPX whatever number they want to put on there, sealing yada, yada lol

It basically looks like they just exo’d it out to save a little bit on the weight and there’s probably some new plastic parts!

There’s plenty of videos to watch for comparison on the tube!

Don’t know if it’s me or not, but I prefer almost all the earlier generations, because they just seem to be built better and have better parts!

Then they have to start messing with stuff to try to keep up with the competition and keep their products affordable!

My buddy up the street, his Dad had the newer one, and got nailed by a wave in OBX !

Well, he had to put a new IAR bearing in because it was failing and literally crunching when he was reeling lol!

I’m not sure if that will help you, but that’s my take on the newer VI version!

Ok thanks for the input. So far seems pretty good except for the plastic part breaking. Penn quality has been getting much better imho. Having used the battle, slammers and newer spinfishers all nice reels with no problems at all really. And I still use the old ss reels too.

Was looking at shimano ultergra also.

Whether they're ideal or not the beauty of Penn reels...parts are inexpensive and readily available. Report back and let us know what you think after putting it thru it's paces.

Penn long cast spinners are great…..only downside is weight and that just comes into play if you hold rod…..not an issue if you use a sandspike

I have the last gen V 7500 LC. It’s a great reel. It’s a little heavy, but it’s a beast of a reel that I use for slinging chunks. Have it mated to a 12ft. 6-16oz. Mojo.  I have plenty of conventional reels for bait fishing, but if your looking for a great, bait spinning reel, I would highly recommend the Penn LC
