Hi there,

Anybody know how to take the spool bearing out of the side plate on this reel?. I mean, there is no space to get any tools in there. Does the black "somewhat" in the center of the bearing come out as well or not?

Thanks

A photo would help.

I've used a bent nail to hook and wiggle out Curado, Tranx and other bearings.

I don't think it was anything special....isn't it jsut a c clip?

I can't remember where I put mine....it's in a bin somewhere..

You're talking about the one with the "booster spool" and all the hyper bull****????

The limited version that's still available 2 years later :)

LOL..you posted the pic as I was typing....

Yup that's it.

Pop the clip....and the bearing will come right out.

the black in the bullseye should be just a piece to keep the shaft from rubbing on frame.

You'll see when you pop it out...nothing that is out of the ordinary.

Oh yeah....don't pop the mag clip unless you want to go bonkers..lol

I did put out a video on what to do if you pop the mags.....if they survive the high speed impact when they crash together that is....lol

Now I have managed to install the two spool bearings (Boca Bearings, Orange seal ABEC7) All went well, even taking out the spool shaft pin. BUT - I think the new bearings are quite noisy!

Is this normal for cheramic bearings to make more noise than the originals?. The Daiwa bearings I could hardly hear when spinning the spool - but these new ones make quite some noise! And yes they are lubricated with one single drop of Boca Bearings own Lightning Lube, High Speed Oil. Also I remowed the sheild in one side, this way it is much easier to lubricate the bearings later on.

A bent safety pin will help to get behind the bearing and pull it … you may want to put the side plate in clear plastic bag before you pull the retaining clip …abec 7 bearings are a little noisey

Hi Surf Bomber - Ohh, I did not know about the ABEC 7 was noisey - but why? And why are other hybrids less noisey?

All ceramic bearings are noisy compared to standard ones. That you removed the shield on one side might also make it noisey or at least present less of a barrier for noise to eminate.  I never found the noise to be something I didn't get used to. The ABEC number indicates tighter tolerance, the higher the number goes. "Hybrid" really only means the balls are ceramic, the race steel. Total ceramic bearings are very expensive. When typical American anglers talk about ceramic bearings they really are hybrids. Give the bearings some time to get used to them before you decide against them.
