Radon Removal Systems

Who has a Radon removal system in their house?   My friend got my wife worked up and now she wants a Radon system in our home.  Our home is 3.3 pCi/L

Based on the epa.gov I should get this fixed.  https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2016-02/documents/2012_a_citizens_guide_to_radon.pdf

I'm curious how many have a remediation system in their home.

My sister moved a couple years ago and the seller had to do radon removal. I really didn't look at it when I was there as it's in the basement.

I had one in my old house.

What a ****ing scam.  She's been living in it forever, as everyone has.

My lawyers made previous owners put it in.  Its a PVC pipe with a fan that goes through your slab.  And then there is a vent hole in the slab elsewhere.

Best part was wife telling me we had to have it serviced...because, you know, all the haus-fraus spend money doing so, its so important.

Drag her outside yet again, turn it off, watch a bit of water drain out, turn it back on.  See?  Serviced.  Running.  Quiet.

feed a lab rat 40 human doses of saccarin a day, and I bet it gets cancer as well.

I have one.  You'll never get your radon level down to zero with a mitigation system. 3.3 doesn't sound too bad, and i doubt that installing a system will take you down considerably lower than that.

I know, i told the wife that. The friend is a little nut.  They convinced my wife that we will get cancer if we don't do a radon remediation system.   I said to myself, what was it like when i grew up.  We never had these when I grew up in the 80s.

Yeah.. And the fan would sit outside my bedroom, just about where they will drill.

They charge 1800$ I think to do remediation.  Last thing I want to do is drop 1800$.

Thank god we are growing all green, so no more fossil fuels.  I think the Dino's would be pissed if they knew how lame we became

Well, hey, the upside is it will get regular maintenance when you drain it to quiet it down being outside your bedroom.

I can't imagine being on of those morons incapable of thinking clearly enough that they pay for annual service

$1800 seems worth it just for not hearing I told you so from the wife if one of you gets cancer in 50 years.

EPA says you should consider taking action between 2-4 but the actual action limit is 4 pCi/L.  Personally I wouldn't sweat that level depending on how it was determined.  You need a long term average, not a single reading.  You can buy a digital radon monitor from a company called airthings on amazon for around $100.  I'd start with that and only consider taking action once i knew the long term average.
