The 2023 Tavern Victory Garden Thread

Get your seeds in order. Planting season starts in a bit.

 

New plans for 2023. Focus on what I will actually use. Tomatoes were off the charts last year. Hoping to continue that success. Reduce the pepper varieties. Hoping to get the basement gardens fired up again for the root vegetables. I have a ginger root growing already in a pot.

 

This year the paw paw saplings will need to find their spot in the yard.

I was also thinking we should swap some seeds but after seeing some of the weird hybrids and dwarfs created I’m out until I decide to control sexual activity out there.

I isolate  Mother Plants  in order to prevent that.  Pretty successful so far.

Nah - half the fun of planting a bunch of hot peppers each year from what you grew last year is to see what magical hybrids you end up with.

 

Some seem to come true year after year.

The rest of my Hab peppers seem to have fun turning into something new.   Still good and hot though.

Tough call.  They’re all expensive for fewer and fewer seeds these days.  Johnny’s and Burpees have not screwed up an order recently.  Johnny’s hybrids seem to perform well.  Some tomatoes burpee’s was pushing sucked, at least for me. New company had a lot of different interesting stuff last year and I’ll remember the name as soon as catalog gets here.

I had a pack of Pablano pepper seeds from Burpee and every single plant was shishito.
