i_like_poppers
Who got lucky this year? This seems to be a yearly thread so thought I'd kick it off. They keep changing the time of the sale, at least this year it was at a civilized time. I have the vocabulary of a well-educated sailor.
TFLT
I think I got it but until it comes in the mail you can’t be sure. It was sold out at 9:01 am. Two years ago I got kicked off the sight after I had entered all of my information. About a month later they contacted me that some people had been rejected and I would be receiving a permit. Literally 9:02 That's strange. I had 3 windows open, trying to refresh each one every 10 seconds and couldn't get it. Just when i was ready to give up, I got permit in my cart. Filled up plate and residence, enter cc number and got it It was 9:03 Bad day fishing is still much better than good day work.
surfcaster1
The method that Long Island NY State Parks uses to distribute Caumsett Fishing Permits sucks. Last year I finished entering all my information and the. program just froze. I refreshed the page but, Sold Out popped up. This year I did everything as instructed, pressed the add to cart button and Sold Out pops up again. All this within the first few nano- seconds. I am just so disappointed/pissed off. I was looking forward to fishing there. How does NY LI State Parks think this is a good system? There has got to be a better way. I honestly prefer getting up early and waiting on line in the cold to get the permit over the computer horserace they have put us through the last couple of years. The process should be done in person. New York State residents should get priority. Caumsett is a beautiful park with excellent fishing if you are willing to do some exploring. The last couple of years it has turned into a crap show, cars in the lot with no permit, people setting up tents on the beach, bonfires, people keeping short fish and over the limit. There has to be a better system to do this. The Covid excuse is weak. If we don’t say anything, it will continue to spiral into Sunken Meadow on a Sunday afternoon. valleygoog, Popasilov and Rainmaker

That being said, this system they are using now discriminates against older people and people who are less computer savvy .. I agree that it should go back to the in person sales. Rip-Line
I was successful and last year also. I am really shocked at the demand for this pass. I am not sure in person sales would be much better. Prior to Covid when I went to get the pass line was wrapped around the building. I think the state is trying to avoid that, next people will be camping out. 10+ years ago you could stroll up to the Caumsett office a week or two after it when on sale and pick it up, guess it’s been blown up on Instagram. surfcaster1
All so know is that I follow all the rules that have been set up, and because of this screwed up system - I can no longer get a permit to fish at Caumsett. NY State Park Management should not be taking a bow over their screwed up system. I am one of those older guys and the only thing you have done is take away my fishing access. It is sad, since they actually have a blackbook of people who probably buy the pass with no intention of following the rules of the permit. lisurfexplorer
I managed to get it again....it was sold out 30 seconds after 9:00 AM on the dot. I still prefer the old method of taking a day off work and getting online at 5 AM....at least then if you really want it your somewhat guaranteed to get it. I will say this- for the year of 2022 I had my permit checked at Caumset numerous times at all sorts of hours.

Funny you mentioned that. They actually kicked out a few people in line waiting because they are in the secret blackbook. Didn't bother to get one. Not worth the trouble. It could have been my 4x4 pass, they wouldnt have known .. Sad the state has such a poor system of doing it, they really need to enforce the permit and find a better system. Richizzzle
Just do whatever you want and say "no english" 800 times and the DEC guy making 20 bucks an hour will leave you alone. Or so i have gathered. I hate it here. hobobob
halidyne
I got lucky on this one and get most of the other permits but I've been using them less and less because of the worsening conditions. It's a shame they can't keep order in any of the permitted areas, Demo, Gilgo, all state and county parks. Rules without enforcement are meaningless. These areas are a free-for-all and have been for a while. Sorry for all that got shut out and replaced with… well you know.
