Does anyone know anything about this stuff?....I want to redo, replace and upgrade the whole house water treatment systems for our well water? Which product? Any advice? Equalizer and softener that requires salt.

Two copper pipes to sweat, I should be able to do that. And a plug into the wall. I know I can do that... Seems too easy to me.

It has been decades since we tested the water but as I recall, we have hard water and acidic water.  My system is 20 + years old. We have an neutralizer that I have serviced by a company. They seem to have a tough time with the top loading component and every so often they needing to switch it out  with one they have on hand. I will service my own  and get one that does not require  the whole head to be removed?

We also have a softener that I watch and add salt when needed.

We needed a new well and although it was a false alarm we were told the units were too old to repair and replacements are 10K..$10,000 WTF??? 4 pipes to sweat tops and two wall plugs? ( 2 units x 2  = 4 pipes)

I figured I better see what I was getting for 10k and  tried to google the  unit they would install. They would not tell me. Thats when I got pissed and googled whole house systems thinking I should DIY this bee ache. I found $2,500 tops... So what units do all think I should use? This is new to me so any advice I'm all ears.

Honestly the place to start is with water test results in hand.  You need to know what you want to filter out, how much to adjust the pH, etc.  10k is nutty.

We've had a Kinetico system for almost 4 years and it is working well.  Chlorinates and softens water.

Right! 10 k is NUTS!  Welcome to the Hamptons.... I bet anywhere else in the country I could find someone to fix them. Here they  smack you  with replacement  only and  top dollar.

Do a search for NY State Certified Water testing labs.  These are labs that are EPA certified.

You can also search the EPA's Website for list .

Haha, NEXT! These guys in captive markets are a real piece of work. A friend in the Catskills told me when I visited that no plumber could solve their chronic low flow problem in the kitchen, one had even fracked their well for thousands. I noted "the water in the bathroom seems fine". I walked over to the sink, cleaned the aerator screen on the faucet, and all was perfect in 5 minutes. But you can't charge someone thousands for an aerator screen!

Frustrating isn't it. They lost me when they refused to tell me what they were selling me. For all I know the unit is $500 bucks. I might as well install the top of the line thing and call a plumber to fix anything I screw up rather than use the "water guys." One more reason I want to relocate to Va.

Get one with a digital programmer not analog dial.

Mine backflushes from the amount of water used not every 3rd or 4th day.

Choose where the water back flows outside wisely as it will kill all plants & grass.

Let my know if you want the model or pic of mine.

Like it was said start with a water test by a lab not a company selling water softener....

I had a whole-house system (approx 6500 sq ft with a drilled well @250') installed about 18 years ago. Water softener/salt type. I paid $2000 CAD back then (about $1500 USD). When the technician came over to test the water I had hard/acidic water I was told. He showed me that if he added one extra drop of a certain testing chemical it would show (to the customer) a different color meaning a different result, more expensive solution and a higher cost. The company then auto-enrolled me into a preset maintenance schedule at a cost of $50-$75 per year plus parts. I immediately cancelled and never needed maintenance in the eighteen years I owned it, sold the house and am friendly with the new owners. Still not a single issue. I am in Nova Scotia, Canada and up here the hospital will test the water (required during any sales/purchase) for $35 CAD for poisons/heavy metals which are not tested for by the water company  I would rate the drinking water taste, or lack of taste, to be the best drinking water I ever had anywhere.

I do want the model number!... I don't know where to start. The test  is the wise idea. When I did search the google  world ,it was overwhelming. Do you get a Home Depot model? I did not trust that. I felt like I might as well get a real good one if I'm going to all the trouble. I sweeted pipes outdoors... my outdoor shower etc...but I am anxious  about the inside water works. But wtf I can always call someone to  bail me out if it goes wrong.

If you are gonna do it yourself, yea do the research and get a good one,  pretty much using existing plumbing and fittings??? you have sweated  connection before, should be relatively easy, especially if the connections are outside of the walls. There  is always shark bite fittings. You call ask cost to a local plumber to Install.

I just did a gas valve, the ****, had it coming straight out of the wall, couldn't get the dryer close enough to the wall, 90 degree street ell , 12" threaded black iron pipe and a ball style gas valve, $12.00 now it lays up against the wall
