Cold, windless day of river fishing. The 41-43 water finally showed signs of life.  Looks like Sunday afternoon is prime to get the yaks out again.

In years gone bye, I would hop on a party boat and go for flounder on St. Patty’s   Day. Miss that!

Tried for bass today and no luck of the Irsh for me. Skunk.

Having a pint now, have a safe and happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

For better or worse, I have the luck of the Polish, St Paddy's day or not.

The air temps are over 50 degrees and Mr. Softee is already prowling the streets of the Bronx.

Thought I'd hit the bay and see what happens. Went out for a couple of hours yesterday and today -- soaked some frozen salted bloodworms from last year and did some light bucktailing. Expected nothing and wasn't disappointed. Water is still in the very low 40s out there, so I don't think that it'll pick up for a couple of weeks yet. Not complaining, as after 4 months it's nice just to get out, break out the regreased/oiled reels, and wet a coupl'a two t'ree lines.

Last year, things really picked up in a major way the last week of March, but we also had a number of upper 60s/low 70s days then. One thing that I noted was that when the baby jellyfish showed up, a bunch of big schoolies with more than a couple of legal-sized fish mixed in showed up and were aggresively hitting lures, hard, despite the still coldish water temps. After about two weeks, the baby jellies moved out and the bite totally shut down. From then until the end of April I could only catch on bait. I presume that them baby jellies had the holdover bass amped up to hit something moving. We'll see what this colder Spring brings this year.

I used to try to get my boat in the water around now, for just that reason.

Probably get it in the first or second week of April this year, but I don't expect to do much with it untuil the weakfish show up in May.  Although I might go sit on a couple of wrecks to see whether there are any ling or--dare we hope?--small cod around.

The NJ marine reports are between zero and dismal, and it’s only slightly better in the NY rivers. I actually want to hear they are catching in RB in Joisey! Fish finders that were stacked with marks in years past are barely marking this March. Water temps are near identical to the last two seasons.

I don’t know if things are behind several weeks, or if Mother Nature has resorted to tapping Ctrl/Alt/Del.

 Hopefully it improves next week.

Been seeing some bait and birds in some local west back bay waters. Just when you think the weather is taking a turn...I still end up starting my day freezing in my truck waiting for it to warm up on the way to work. Not surprised I've been hearing some small murmurs going around. Any week from this point on is fair game for some action

Made some trips and got a line wet in several local back bay spots and harbors this evening and while I didn't even get a bump I was pleasantly surprised of the abundance of bait around. Hopefully it hangs around and these migrating bass find it soon enough
