Very nice. How long are your fishing sessions?

First and hopefully the last 'El Skunko last evening. Three hours of casting poppers, paddle tails, flies on intermediate, flies on top, North Shore harbors. Did see one area loaded with peanuts but nothing bothering them. Ton of grass and mung floating on the surface with all the East wind of late. Lot of bugs too. Time to venture outside...

At the north shore spot I visited recently, there are 3-4 rods every 100 feet or so stretch along the beach. Most of things don't survive. I still managed to pull a few fish between them on some light tackle.  Very little short fluke around, but probably getting picked off by folks not knowing the limit and same crowd that places trash bags behind them at least some use trash bags.

Called Park State police a couple of times about something prohibited in state parks (not fishing related, but clearly breaking nys park rules), they never showed up. Had similar experience on south shore as well, but at least with mixed results there. I guess same with NCPD, for good reasons at one point, defund the police, covid, cashless bail etc. our police force felt betrayed, - unless there is serious crime or robbery, I don't see them responding the way the used to non-emergencies. Even if there are reason for that, feels like the bar has been lowered substantially across the island with lack of enforcement on non-violent non-emergency violations even if you call the precinct. And no one in the rush to bring it back where it used to be.

Tell me about it. It's been Silent Spring out here.

I'm in the WLIS and (though I'm not good) the bite has been pretty tough. Thing is, I know the bass are around. I've seen them on the fish finder, surface feeding around my kayak, literally blitzing 25 from a dock. The only time I catch seems to be on purely reaction strikes. Otherwise I think the prodigous peanut and larger clouds of bunker keep them happy to ignore my lures. I think all this bait is part of what tends to limit the bite in the western sound so early most summers.

Super quiet in the western sound for sure, we had some adult bunker just show up. There are fish on them, but they aren't in close

We also have just started to see some large bluefish being caught, not in numbers but lone cruishers.

Worst spring up here on the Bronx side for over 20 years, I have quite a few skunks under the belt and when i do catch I have been doing longer than usual sessions.

Got out this morning for a short trip. Not feeling good today.

Threw the BT out front and got a 24” bass. Still a bit weedy but fishable.

Tried the SS popper and a SP without a tap.

Since there are some blues around I threw on a Cordell pencil, first cast 33” bass.

Raised a couple more but went home to rest.
