Thanks for keeping this going Hilltop.  Definately one of my favorite posts on SOL.  Happy New Year everybody.  Hope to post up some early fish next week.

Dick's post got me through many so boring afternoons being trapped at work. I lived vicariously through all his Sanibel Island trips.  His passing left a hole in this forum and he is missed. To this day I carry couple of Betsy's in my box in his memory. Here's to more flyfishing in 2023. May we fill this thread up to the fullest.

What a great post as someone new to the forum I am happy to this. Today I am going to put new running line on my spey reels. I was previously running OPST Lazr line in 35lb however the twist was becoming problamatic.

In 2013 on a cold late November day several of us were fishing Scortons Creek. One by one we all called it quits, it seemed there wasn't a fish to be caught, but not Dick. If there was one striper left in the area, he was going to catch it. I've never met a more tenacious fisherman.

There is nothing sadder than watching a fishing partner being betrayed by age or life itself.  Sad, but for all the years of sharing joyful companionship on the waters of our lives.

Hold them close while we can,

and know that we will all meet again.

Happy New Year to the whole SOL family.

Thanks Chuck for starting this thread, I know many of us have been touched by Dick in some regard, he helped me out with locations and fly patterns when I first started going to Sanibel and for that I will ever be grateful.   RIP Dick

January 1st Trout.  River was up from the rain yesterday, which moved the fish around.  Landed 1 and LDRed one.  Had a flashy jigged eurostreamer as the anchor to get down and noticed in the high flows.

Happy New Year!

Fishing was slow with dirty water and debris but garbage collecting was epic after our king high tides and flooding last week. Everything got reshuffled.
