I really like the bail/rotor. probably my favorite. It’s light weight and the drag was smooth.

I don’t like that it leaked after 1 nice fish. It was leaking from the main body/side cover. Mine has the first generation 2 bolt side cover. The pinion and handle seals appear to be fine.

Set up as a manual pick up I prefer my ZeeBaaS For several reasons.

What was the leak from?  Also was the reel dunked?

I didn’t dunk the reel. I added some gear lube and used it at the canal. It started to have some gear lube leak after 1 good fish in current.

Why did you add gear lube btw? Not nearly as popular as it once was. I know ron at zeebaas no longer recommends it for the exact same reason. Oil finds a way out and it does not mean water will find a way in.

I run gear lube in my ZeeBaaS as well. I believe it does a better job of lubricating spiral bevel gears and additional protection if there is a leak.

One of the large online retailers is now advertising the Visser as made in the USA.

There is chatter online about an upgrade to the support of the traverse guide. Apparently it is supported by bearings now.

Visser says on site. American design American made. Then go’s on to say our goal is to bring back manufacturing in the USA. I know they originally were going to assemble in USA but didn’t appear they did. Also if they did change traverse guide to bearing supported it would be nice I always thought that was brilliant on the Zeebaas. I also like to use gear oil in reels constantly lubricating throughout reel . If gear oil is in the differentials of our vehicles keeping gears and bearings going for the life of the vehicle I’m using it in any sealed reel. If water finds its way in the internals are still protected

Yeah Ron used to run them that way now he doesn't. The grease works better at stopping problems.

ZB build and service has much better attention to detail. I am not doubting their consistency in lubricating gears, but I believe that gear lube is a better lubricant in sealed reel.

Open a NIB Van Staal and there is hardly any rheolube on the gearset.

Ged. I know you’re a gear junky.  What’s your overall impression on this reel.   I have one friend that has this reel. @FishingmaniYaks   - he likes his reel. I can’t remember if he told me he had seal issues.

Only seal that broke was on the side cover when I took it off during inspection of heavy reeling under water during a decent bluefish outing. RK sent two sets with grease for nothing. Good stuff. One thing I can relay is having a slight squeak which seems to be the support bearing just under the reverse bearing. This seems to be where they will do this and Nick made a good YouTube video showing this. I think swinging the bearings out for ceramic will make it a solid reel. I have not sent mine in at all and will do this off season for service. I reached out to Visser on bearing sizes and they just stated to send it in. Other than that it has pulled in decent fish since new and did its job.

Yes the new 3 screw side cover reels have rearranged internals with bearings on the traverse guide almost like the torque. A little disappointed early adopters weren't offered a new body with the "update". There is a fb group/page Visser appreciation that Rob posts in, recently he was commenting on the X2 line rub.

Edit: Nvm I see this was brought up in the VS thread yesterday lol
