The endless search for good winter fishing gloves

That time of year where fishing is unbearable when your fingers are literally freezing.

The quest for great gloves are never ending.

I found a new pair to try this year that almost perfect, so damn close...

It's thin at 1.20mm so highly dextrious with correct finger joints, it's has a good grippy palm but not too grippy, it has just the right amount (this is a big deal), it's warm, almost fully waterproof. I can even use it for regular outings also.

But for F sakes! They don't make it in a full 5 finger version. The thumb index middle has a cut off.  Dang it! Why don't they make it in full finger.  :waah:

Anyone knows a good glove or have recommendations I can check out, similar to this Varivas in design?. Thin, dextrious, etc.

Makes me want to flip the gloves inside out and hand sew some finger tips cut from old or broken gloves.

Which I will likely do on my day off.

On Instagram yesterday I saw a very promising solution it was a fishmonkey brand monkey hands glove with black nitrile gloves over the top of them

There us no such thing as perfect fishing gloves.  Gave up on that search a long time ago....

I go with the rag wool with exposed fingers and the flip over mitten.

I have never been able to fish with gloves on. I have tried a bunch with no joy so all my Winter fishing is done bare handed.

Cause usually cold gloves are thick 3 to 5mm. So it's definitely no joy when you can't move or feel anything. Or things feel like it'll fall out of your hands. Lol

This pair I got as a freebie but at 1.2mm, it obviously won't stop freezing temps. But at least take the edge off the cold long enough to be bearable.

I don't even mind if it only last 1 2 3 seasons, I the design is comfy and ergonomic enough to use.

I already found a salvage donor gloves I'm going to take 6 finger tips off.. Then repurpose that pair into garden gloves.

You may want to test your project with yet another set of donor tips and a different set of test subject gloves so you’re not going round one on the gloves you just got.

If it’s really cold, I gotta have something on my hands. Even if they’re mildly effective.

At worst, two pairs of medical gloves keeps the hands dry and retains a little heat. I can wear them under cheap disposable work gloves and manage a session.

I also like the flip over mitten fingerless gloves used for hunting. Mine are something other than wool but okay.

Hand warmer or heat pack inside.

Good idea!

I have a pair in wool and a pair in fleece.  The fleece is nice, but useless once you get them wet, which I always seem to do.  Wearing gloves while fishing sucks,  which is why I usually just fish bare handed and put the gloves on for five minutes to warmup as necessary.  Hand warmers in a pocket can go along way too.

If I'm using hand warmer and hands off...  You damn can bet I'll be using an electric reel that session. Might as well stay completely dry too. Haha
