Sounds like the centaur......wrap around finger and standing line 3 x

Then pass tag throug the o"s

Then pull O's off finger.

I've never heard it called that, but that's the one I know as the Triple O, or Triple Loop. Thats what I use to tie my rigs on to heavy top shot. It's great for stiff heavy mono leaders, but I've tried it on mono less than 20Lbs, and it tends to slip.

Definitely sounds like the centaur knot

AG chain knot is what I'd try. It works very well with heavy leader, but I'm not sure how it'd go with leader as heavy as 200 lb.

Chug hates TA clips lol.

Knowing you I would just carry a crimper. You already have a pile of stuff in that bag, lose one plug and add the crimpers.

IMO trying to tie 200 mono on the beach sounds challenging. And risky for a couple reasons.

A crimp wastes no line and you could swap out in seconds.  With a 6 foot leader you could change a dozen times and still have plenty of leader.

This morning hooked a good size  blacktip who made two runs, one toward the Bahamas and the other along the surf line. A couple of sideways jumps out of the water which has me initially think big cuda.  No spins.

I had him on for 5+ minutes when it started acting strange hugging the shore. Then it decided to move a little deeper when a much bigger shark decided he needed breakfast. I suspect the bigger shark started tracking it which is why the second run was in the shallows.

It was predawn so couldn’t tell if the big shark was a hammer or a bullie.

Good news is I got all the fun out of it and did not have to unhook it alone.  Better news is I got my Yozuri $$$ plug back.

And an eye opener…..

We used 200# Black Widow mono tied directly to hook while live baiting giant tuna. Palomar knot was the connection, wetted and tightened using a cleat as an anchor point. Stuff did go wrong but never a knot fail.

Knows stuff^^^

Wow, that hook is almost straight and I’m amazed that clip didn’t let go

What I don’t know, never will, is if what we see was the blacktip fight and it’s runs or happened when big shark grabbed it, the jolt being the cause. The blacktip was likely close to 100# based on what I could see, the second shark was twice as long, or so it seemed.

Hammers like to eat blacktips but I just don’t know. Never saw it’s head and candidly, while I saw it’s dorsal for a split second, I have no memory of what I saw. The adrenaline rush will do that to you….

True, a 125lb TA clip isn’t really rated for 300+lbs of pissed off sharks.

I would do a 3 turn Uni knot followed by a chain knot.  That prevents slippage, and provides a little extra stretch and bite protection at the termination.  I'd incorporate a split ring and a swivel, instead of tying direct.

The clips are WAY over rated, all brands

But most people will never test them, unless using the Micro TA on bigger bluefish or stripers. Or the 25# on grouper or sharks.

In fairness to the 175# TA clip, it did not fail, was bent out of shape, but did not fail.

FWIW, next I am going to go with crimp a 400# rated solid ring to the end of the 200# (might be upgrading to 300#). Then a 250# rated split ring which will then be used to connect to the plugs.

I appreciate the knot suggestions and I may get to those but want to give the split ring setup a chance. As I noted in the OP and since then, I like to change up lures and the thought of having to retie 200 or 300# every time is a bit daunting.

One thing I’ve tried is crimping or tying to a welded ring, then attaching a split ring to the welded ring, then just using a pair of split ring pliers to quickly change out plugs. It’s faster than re-crimping or re-tying but it seems stronger than a snap/clip

also fwiw I’ve never had a palomar tied in 150 or 200lb test break
