Old Goats grandson is working on a tug boat pulling a dredger through the canal.  Youand everyone else can follow the action on an app. called Marine Traffic.  I use it all the time to get a heads up when large ships are transiting the canal.

I found out he had to wait for the tide to change, didn't want the tide pulling him backwards.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING GUYS!!!!!

OG.  Seems the Lucinda and Oyster both waited out the tide off Plum Island yesterday.

Both appear to be now headed to the inner harbor at 1.5 knots. Both vessels have been joined by the tug Uncle Bill.

Ok cool.  So this is just a spectator thing.

The way it was worded, I thought the canal was being dredged or something.

Thats right, most boats and all ships have what is called an "AIS" which means automatic identification system whichs send a signal to a satellite with their current position.  Using the Marine Traffic app you can not only see the vessels position but also a picture of the vessel, course and speed and destination.  Pretty interesting stuff.  Seeing a car carrier, cruise ship, freighter or tanker up close on the Canal is an awesome sight, tug and barges are also very interesting........................
