Got my hands on a Vega .. finally had some time today to get it mounted up and mess around with it ... got it pumping them out nicely ... fun little do hickey ... now time to make some more templates

When you get tired of resharpening the HSS cutter there are carbide cutters available. Wicked sharp, and I've had mine a few years and haven't even turned the cutter yet.

Steel Pulse is the guy to see.....

It was bought off member / friend here already has the steel pulses cutter in it with some spare carbide ... 

 

I’m seeing that stupid fast is the way to go for less tare out ..

Yea will try next time thanks .. I was at around 2000 I wanna say my lathe gets scary fast like 3000ish

Yup. That will give you the nicest finish. Also clean the tip with alcohol to remove the pitch on occasion will help and the inserts do eventually get dull. You can tell if it starts to tear the wood. Also harder woods will wear out the tip faster than soft woods.

Thanks appreciate the tips a lot ... any brand of carbide cutter ya like best ? There’s tons out there from Chinese cheap ass stuff , which I tried on home made dupe and actually cut well ,  to stupid expensive ..

I have what you need thru work. 12 bucks each. Same insert your using if you got that set up from me. I have plenty.

This is what I’m running . He told me it was from you and I wouldn’t second guess him .. but good to know .. I have I think 2 more spare new cutters so should be good for min

Yeah that’s mine and the inserts I sell. Your good for a while. Down the road if you need anymore I’ll have them.

Lolllll 3600rpm is scary tho lol when i turn by hand specially big ass hunks for bowls I start at like 800 and maybe get up 1600
