As always, this is the place for your reports... as little or as much detail as you care to share, with hopefully a good bit less focus posted on exact spots, times, and locations. Any and all word from the local waters welcome here, and "no fish" reports are welcome as well; always good to have gotten out there at least, wasn't it?

;)

Things are cooling off quickly it seems, hope things pickup this month and the weather cooperates...

Maybe it's my amateur eye - very tough to tell what's going on with that hook considering the angle of picture and resolution.

It’s a circle hook that came back so bent the point is almost touching the shank.

Rod bounced like it was getting a hit. Hook came back empty and bent. I can only assume something bit it so hard, and at just the right angle, that it bent the hook like this? Not sure what fish have powerful enough bites to do this? Shark (maybe)? Drum (don’t think so)? Ray (doubt it)?

If only I could cast into it, hook up, and be connected to it. My line would be attached to the chaos and, for a moment, I would mainline the power of nature.

Oh. Tough cookie I guess.

What size hook?

My guess would be a cownose, they do have that plate in the mouth that could facilitate a crushed hook.

You can often get away from em by ripping circles out of their mouth if you pick the rod up before they get any tension behind the hit.

In hopes of meeting some fellow AI surf fisherfolks:

I'll be fishing AI Mon-Tues.  My kids have off of school so we will be out there.  I have 5 new rods to try.  In addition to fishing, I'll be casting on the beach to measure the differences in casting distance between the Penn Fathom 15 original, the Penn Fathom 2 15 and the Penn Fathom 2 15 Casting Special.  I'll put one of each reels on identical CTS 1305s and build a dataset.

If that kind of fishing nerd activity seems interesting to you, or you also would like to meet an AI surf fisherman, stop by.  I'll be in a slightly lifted, black 2015 suburban with cooler rack on the front and black rack on the roof.  My name is Jeremy.

Curious as to how you measure the distance.....or is it just relative to the other rods?
