Gear Up Pouches - Sizing

I know the dimensions, but it’s hard to tell which size would fit my needs without seeing pics for comparison.

Anyone have a medium or small pouch they can share pics with references for scale? Thanks!

Don’t have one but curious what your needs are? Intended use?

I do have the GU bucktail pouch. It’s worth every penny.

My current set up is a flat lander backbay slim with an option for two added tubes.  That covers my plugs as well as about 6 bucktails or tins.  I’m looking for some extra storage for soft plastics and jigheads.  Hanging them in a tube in the bag just isn’t working for me

The pouches without slots are not my favorite option. I have the Tactical Anglers pouch. No slots. It’s a great value for $25 and I’m using it on my belt rotated around back. But I mainly just have backup soft plastics and pre-tied leaders w/clip. Etc.

IMHO - the GU bucktail pouch is the perfect companion to a 2-3 tube bag

Then again admittedly, I don’t know anything about the gear up medium/small pouches

Sorry if that’s totally rude considering it’s the premise of your OP! Lol. I failed forum interactions 101. Just thought it worth noting my observation above.

I’ve checked out the bucktail pouch and guess I was kind of worried it would be a little big for a secondary bag, but you’ve got me thinking again!

Letting me do something stupid would be rude, I want the input!  Much appreciated

The medium is nice sized utility bag.. perfect for a healthy selection of jig heads/plastics.. The smallpouch is nice too but definitely very small for the price.. also on the small pouch, the belt loop is too narrow for a lot of standard width surf belts, so you have to rig it somehow if you want to wear it on a belt.

I wear my medium in the wash but the small is kind of just a molle add-on to a backpack at this point. I'll post pics

Just for reference if you’re considering the bucktail pouch…  note that this is an eel pouch which has the same exterior dimensions as the bucktail pouch.  The pouch is next to a 30# boga, a 3” blade Aqualung knife and 7” Danco offshore pliers.

It’s big. (That’s what she said.)

I have hoarding issues I guess. Lol.

Whatever you choose, I know Tomo’s has most of them in stock.

The Bucktail/Eel Bag might be a little big for your application. It can hold a lot and does wear well on a belt. The TA Assault Pouch is great for a smaller option. It hold about 6-8 extra soft-plastics less than ~6". They dont bend over the way they would in the med or small GU pouches. For Sluggos or longer plastics, I'll use the Ebb Point Pouch, but that's probably too long for you. My only gripe with the TA pouch is that it isn't sailcloth, but at $25 it works well. I've been looking at the Gear-Up Surfcasting Soft Plastic Bait Pouch as an upgrade to the TA pouch though.

I have the bucktail pouch as well and don't really like it.. too big to be a pouch/ too small to be a bag... but you can fill it with enough tins that it feels a bit heavy on a belt not having a should strap.

It is a nice fluke bag though for walking the beach I guess... can fit about a dozen bucktails (6 ish each side) and 2 gulp bags in the middle.

The medium pouch is perfect.. I like getting my gear up stuff from Surfland in mass because they have their own black and red series that looks sharp..their is a markup though.

I had and sold the bucktail pouch, it was the same length as my 2 tube bag and as a skinnier guy it took up way too much space on my belt. I know some folks cut out one side of the bucktail slots to add soft plastics and smaller plugs which in theory would make for a great early spring set-up. I recently checked some of them out in person and the small one is adequate for a handful of bucktails but I'm not too sure about the belt loop on it. The medium pouch is more geared towards soft plastics such as slug-go, joe baggs and paddletails that are longer in length.

I just wished Gear Up made a bucktail pouch with one row of slots so that there was more room to fit a few bags of soft plastics more comfortably…..

What’s your preferred unrigged soft plastic of which you bring back ups?

(not to derail the thread just wanna know!)

Blue-

i carry a mini two tube Gear-Up which is awesome for some plugs and 4 bucktail slots and on the other side I carry a Flatlander Blitz Bag where I took out the tubes and use it for bags of soft plastics…….it also has 6 more bucktail/tin loops.

This forces me to go light without carry a bunch of unnecessary sh*t.  :th:
