Spend a little more and get a Bett’s Old Salt 1/4” or 3/8” 5’ cast net.

can be had for $50-$70 will be the last cast net you will ever need!

Aside from double knotting and glued joints, what's the difference between Bett's and Fitec? Is it actually that much better?

I’ve never had one of my Fitec nets go bad lol!

It only takes one bad throw and you can completely ruin any net!

Most of the time it’s usually foreign objects on the bottom, that shortens the lifespan of any net!

I imagine if you don’t take care of your net and leave it in the back of your truck out in the sun, in all kinds of harsh conditions, then your net is probably only going last you so long!

I’ve knetted everything from keeper sized fish to cinderblocks to beavers LMAO!

Thanks for your input, I had actually bought the $20 fitec, and so far it works well for me. I am having a hard time drying it out since I've been trying not to keep it in the sun at all. I guess I'll stick with it until it dies on me.

I don't think I have ever used a Fitec. Looking online, it looks like a good quality net and on par cost-wise with Bett's. I recommended Bett's because I have tried the cheaper Walmart brands and they don't sink like the Bett's.

For shrimp, finger mullet and shad a 3/8" 5' or 6" net would work great. Compare the weight per square foot. You want a heavier net to prevent the bait from swimming out from underneath.

I have used several cast nets over the years. Most recently I bought a black pearl cast net.

It is expensive but works great. very heavy. 1.9 pounds per foot which is crazy heavy and fast sinking. I got  6 foot radius (6 foot net). I get more bait than I can use on a single cast. It is probably over-kill but I like it. For shrimp, any net is probably OK if you are throwing in shallow area. IMO. My twin brother loves Betts.

Good luck!
