I hope those are tied down going over the road.

Not to get off track  but I remember losing a 130 off the back of the boat back in the 80s.   I was tuna  fishing with a friend of mine and was putting out a squid bar  off the transom.  As I leaned over the transom putting the it in the water a giant grabbed the back squid 4' from the transom.

A second later a custom bent butt rod with a fin nor 130 hit me between the the shoulder blades and was gone. It came right out of the rod holder on the side of the fighting chair.

The worst part is I had mentioned to the Captain that we should have tethers on the rods.     Point being a $12.00 tether cost him $1500 (back then).

The next day we had tethers on every rod.

Saw this set up down the pier the other day and took a few pics.

Question: why are they leaving so much room on the spool? I’m guessing they’re 130s just based on how they look compared to the rods.. room for wind on leaders or 250lb mono top shot? Backed by hella braid? To take advantage of low spool drag increase?

They’re called Port a Rod.   They have a website and carry set up’s for heavy gear.  I have one.   Never failed

Had a similar experience, was fighting a yellowfin from the chair and a second rod went off in the rocket launcher. 30w launched hit me in the back/head blew my hat off and got caught up behind the transom in our other lines. Luckily we were able to retrieve it. Landed both fish.
Tethers for the win ha.

those are nice racks, I use PVC. I’m not traveling far so it wasn’t worth the extra $ to get something factory
