Ferrule Twist

I built a 11' BH Surf II Regular last month and love it.  I had no problems when it was dry.  It's first trip in the surf and storm the ferrule became a twisty PITA. Almost all my rods are 2 piece with several BHs and never had this problem.

It's butt over tip and seems to be wicking in water from the top.  Once wet it will not lock up and stay put. Any tips or tricks? Maybe wax a thin coat of thin finish or tighter thread wraps around the butt section?

The RV16h landed an inch or so above the joint. Not sure if that would make any difference.

I wax the ferrules on all my multiple piece rods. It's not perfect but helps.

Thanks Drew, I'll give it a shot. I should be able to keep it clean enough.

I didn't dunk the ferrule last night and still had a wet ferrule and twisting. Think water may be coming in from that little hole in the butt cap when used as a wading staff.  I've never sealed or plugged a butt cap but debating that too.

The male ferule tip should have a silicone plug.

Look at it to confirm.

Ferrule join can get wet from line running in and out of guides.

PS - it's a PITA - but you may want to tape ferrules.

There are definitely some bad ferrules out there too. I’ve seen a few over the years.

Tape it. Use the plumbers tape that stops leaks   At the end of the day remove it.
