Clearing things out. Not fishing anytime soon.

With the incoming fall run, gear can be better used in your hands.

Daiwa Catalina uses same gears and parts as the 2010 model Saltiga minus a few bearings.

So whichever way you look at it. Its a Saltiga class reel.

Parts are all interchangeable between the 2010 silver saltiga, 2011 catalina, 2012 USDM Isla, 2015 black saltiga, and 2016 black catalina.

So you can swap parts around or use parts off each other.

1. Jdm daiwa catalina 3500

Box and papers.  Normal usage marks.

Studio oceanmark blue eva knob

Reel has some gear teeth noise, but still perfectly usable. Not really felt under fishing load.

I have serviced the reels and all bearings are good. Added new mag oil.

Buy to use, run it to the ground still has years of life left. Or buy and dismantle for parts $.

2. Jdm daiwa catalina 3500

Box papers reel bag.

Light usage marks.

Is slightly better condition then reel #1, also has very acute gear noise rumble (less than #1). But perfectly usable. Not felt under fishing load.

Serviced and all bearings are good. New mag oil added.

Buy to use, run it to the ground still has years of life left, or buy and dismantle for parts $.

Buy both catalinas 3500 for $310 shipped.

Hell of a bargain.. for 2 saltiga class reels.

dont like it, or not as well as i describe, you can return it.

3. Jdm Daiwa Catalina 5000h

Box papers bag. In very good condition. No noise. All works, guaranteed.

Added new mag oil.

Has original spool and an additional spare Studio Oceanmark 4500 no limits rocket cast spool (spool has different lip profile for better casts, value $150) and pe4 line as a bonus.

Great reel for jigging, surf use, topwater with M MH H tuna rods. Jig with original spool, cast woth SOM spool.

$410 shipped. dont like it, or not as well as i describe, you can return it.

What do you think is causing ‘gear noise’?

Minor wear inside edge of gear teeth.

When i opened it up, the lower pinion bearing was making gritty noises and probably made it loose (lower half of pinion) and vibrate slightly. Everything else is all fine, shafts, oscillators, cogs, bushings. Just that 1 bearing.

So the gear started to rub on the edge more against the steel pinion. Instead of full teeth meshing, I saw the marks on the bottom half of the tooths. This didnt happen from normal cranking as ive alot of saltigas over the years when bearings are kept in good shape and teeth mesh completely. And the bronze gear lasts the life of the reel and more.

So i replaced the pinion bearings, added .01mm shims to the main gear side, added new mag oil, now back in alignment. With more use. The gear should break in again (reshape) against the pinion and quiet out a little bit. Why i should just use the reel and run it to the ground.  When the gear finally craps out after yeats of use.  You can salvage parts (everything but the gears, $) or buy a new gear to drop it.

Remember. The reel is compatible with 2 generations, 4 reel lineups, and spools, handles can even by interchanges with some Certate models. So lots of parts can be swapped around.

Eric,

Would you do $575 shipped for all three and spare spool?

I will cover pp fees.

Also are the lips on all four spools and bails ding/nick free?
