flyangler
@TimS - why can't HEIC photos, iPhone photos using the high efficiency format, be uploaded directly from a Mac OS computer? It works from iPhone or iPad, but apparently not from Mac OS devices (neither my MacBook or Mac Mini).
TimS
When they are uploaded, are they parsed and visible in posts? I don't use HEIC personally...not sure the site processes them and displays them... Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere. Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.

flyangler
But the same image from my iPhone
TimS
The image from your iPhone is posted as a .jpeg, not .heic - the software parses .jpeg and displays them as an image - it apparently handled .heic as an attachment. Let me see if this is something I can change...I don't think it is, but I'll look. On your end, if you save your .heic images as .jpg or .jpeg before you upload Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere. TimS
I checked...nothing I can do with this software to process .heic images - and your iPhone is apparently changing them to .jpeg as a default because it knows .jpeg is vastly more useful EricDice 1 Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere. That is strange, really strange. These are photos taken on the iPhone where the settings for photos is to default to HE. The photos are uploaded from phone to iCloud as HEIC and then retrieved by laptop or mini in HEIC format. As far as i know, the iPhone does NOT contain two versions of same file. Quote Let me see if this is something I can change...I don't think it is, but I'll look. fwiw, i HAVE been able to upload HEIC images to other forum sites without conversion. they likely use a different hosting software but it is possible Quote On your end, if you save your .heic images as .jpg or .jpeg before you upload yeah, that's what I do now but it is a pain. The file is being transcoded to jpeg upon upload. Jpeg is a standard file. HEIC is pretty new (and wholly unnecessary, especially for phone pics IMO, but what do I know? I've only worked in imaging tech for close to 30 years.) My SWAG (scientific wild ass guess) is that the phone OS transcodes on upload as part of mobile protocol and the laptop does not. You can likely change the phone default setting to jpeg. I did that on my Android. It’s okay because I’m a member & the president of that community. —————— A server can tell what browser & operating system is at the other end. My SWAG is that the server code for allowing attachments originally had no option for mobile phones to upload pics. When someone “fixed it,” they created a new program/interface or a new set of rules within the existing one. In either case, the “mobile” version or the mobile rules of that attachment code auto convert to jpg but not for desktop/pc. Niffty

Niffty
Me thinks it exports as jpeg to the server automatically.
