RI Fish Report Blog. Aug 29 - Sept 4

The fish blog was created as a common communal gathering place to share and report weekly fishing activity. Having this information in one thread benefits those who greatly use this RI forum and ply our local waters. The premise is to gather all weekly reports into one common portal, thus making it easy to access, view and add your own fish reports.   This is the fifth year for this type of approach. Post your success or skunks, either way, black or white, zero to hero, let us all know if the bite is good or bad.  Fresh, factual information is one of the best sources of Intel we have at our disposal to predict where the better fishing will be tomorrow.

This should be a breakout week for pelagic species. South County is loaded with small bait ready to explode.

There are times when it's so thick, you could cut it with a knife. Funny how life is? The next day it completely vanishes.

Look for more ablies too.

Out yesterday, early evening. Water was alittle cloudy but easily fishable from surface to bottom with minimal eel grass. Lots of bait but nothing bothering it. Noone was getting any action until the sunset.  Opened up quickly,  blues and a couple slot bass.  Same as a few nights ago... soft swim baits ( sluggos and swim shad) got hit on every cast but the blues were chewing through them,  so you had to work harder with hard plastics/wood. Shutdown as fast as it started after an hour. Guys on the beach pulled a couple slot fish out also.

I can’t believe the date in these reports now includes September.   I haven’t been fishing RI for a few weeks but will be down this weekend and hope to have a good report or two.

Same, I'll be in the Little Compton area for Labor Day. Gonna make the pilgrimage to the Saltwater Edge and then cross my fingers that my mid-summer RI spots are still holding fish. Might venture over and fish Newport one night which I haven't done before.

I was thoroughly looking forward to contributing to this board this season. Unfortunately I'm not a very good fisherman. Couple that with I'm going where ever, when ever since I have an 8 Y.O. and a newborn. I mean, I'm fishing low tide at 2pm in 3 ft. Of water, just to get out at a super local spot.

Looking to make some changes and head a bit south more often now that the tourists are gone.

Hopefully I'll be back with reports. Good, bad or indifferent; hopefully I'll provide some reports from good fishing waters(without spot burning). You guys have been good to me as I learn saltwater.

P.S. - I almost met up with HugeDingy for that roof rack...just to meet him. I could use a roof rack, but probably won't fit on my car.

The balance of bass fishing and having small kids is not easy.  Tough to be a zombie with them, but tough to miss good tides.

Yes, and don't forget probably the biggest element  - you can get so addicted, you neglect your wife - who has been dealing with the kids while you sleep all day.

I remember going out to eat in an expensive restaurant with my wife on the evening after an all nighter. I basically nodded into my baked haddock while she tried to talk to me.

She was not impressed.

I remember spending a wedding anniversary on Cutty with Bigfish Larry because of the tides :). I have an understanding wife, but that may have been close to the edge.

Or your kid can grow up to be a bigger fishing addict than you are, and you know it's your fault.

Yup. I'm there already. But he still hasn't been able to put a cow like that on the rocks - and it's killing him.

That's a proud dad moment.  What's up with the headless fish in the background?

Buying a "fixer-upper" house was one of the biggest fishing mistakes i've made so far.

Today will be my 1st time out this year.

Yup, made the same mistake 15 years ago.

Wife's a good egg.  Those 2 hour fishing trips that take 6 hours get to her a bit, but it usually gets the boy out of her way.

He loves fishing...it's all my fault!
