Delaware surf fishing

Hello Everyone,

sorry if I’m posting in the wrong area. I’m heading to South Bethany Delaware this week. I’m going to try surf cast fishing for the first time. Info I’ve found so far is that I can surf cast at 2 state beaches. Sea Shore state beach and Fenwick island state beach. So my question is, is there some other place to go? Little hidden gem? Also and recommendations for bait setups, weights, etc.

thanks in advance.
Pete

Its the dog days of summer so fishing in DE surf will likely be slow.  Toss a hi/lo rig with fish bites and/or sand fleas right in the wash and you might get some kingfish aka whiting or spot.  If you throw out a chunk or head on a circle hook you may luck in to a cobia but it's rare.  Thin profile metal lures worked at dusk or dawn might entice a passing bluefish.  Weight depends on wind and surf conditions- start at 3 oz and work your way up one ounce at a time if it's not holding.

Yea I get it, not optimal time to fish shore. Thanks for the advice. Never used sand fleas before should be interesting. I’ll probably try fleas and cut bait. Again thank you.
