Camping forum: surprise rain event quick hack

So I'm sleeping away, no tent, no sleeping bag, in hot dry California, when the pitter patter of light rain got me into top gear immediately.

Inventory:

Tarp

Rope (not enough)

Zip ties and a rake!

Using gravity and angles to tension the tarp took 10 seconds...after climbing the tree in flip flops.

But 30 seconds to zip tie the tarp to the rope and pull it up like a sail, then 10 seconds to zip tie to "tent poles" using triangular vector forces..

.

I can't imagine all that gear and not having something setup for shade, in hot dry california.

Then again, I don't do the camping.

I'd be ok with a camp ground provided it had bathroom facilities with running water.

My daughter drove up to Wyoming over the weekend.  Slept on an air mattress in the back of the honda pilot.

Oh hell no.
