My Otterbox cover makes paying with my phone problematic. Sensors can't seem to get through the case.

yep me too.  I have their heavy duty case that's very thick.  But I also have an apple watch so I could use that instead.

It is as secure, or more so, than using any other form of POS payment and will work anywhere tap to pay is accepted.  I read a lot about cybersecurity and personal finance and people much smarter than myself have come to the conclusion it's extremely safe and perhaps the most secure payment form.  I put my credit card info in there for the exact instance you described and it has since saved my butt on more than one occasion.

Ok, thx.   Going to give it a try.

You don't need to use the facial recognition at any point right?

I don't have a phone with face unlock so I input my passcode to confirm the transaction.

The payment apps like apple and google are more secure that a physical card because your card data is not included in the transaction. The reader is basically just telling apple that you are there and want to make a purchase for $$$ and apple just replies with a Y or N. The card data is only at apple in that case.

Makes sense.  Good tip on the debit thx

In addition, don't ever use a business/corp debit because the same protections that apply to your personal account do not apply to a corporate account. Gone means gone.

why would anyone want to be tracked and their purchases recorded by Apple?

For the record, Apple doesn't get to see what you purchased and the merchant doesn't get your cc # so using apply pay significantly reduces the amount of tracking vs using the card directly.
