GJS
Hi, Looking for some ideas. I like to take both, a 9' surf rod and a 9' fly rod when I go out. Depending on conditions I will use one or the other. I'm looking for a bag that can carry 3 tubes for lures and a flybox and some misc. small stuff, and be able to carry the spare rod. I would prefer a sling if possible. Thanks for any suggestions. GJS

The quality can vary quite a bit but most are pretty inexpensive. Even if you beat it up and have to replace it after a season or two, you're not out a ton of money. EricDice
I have an Amazon backpack similar to the one pictured. Planned on using the rod holder option but I have found it annoying to carry the bag plus a rod/reel combo on it. Haven’t done it yet. Turned it into a bait rig transportation device. (With a pile of terminal tackle for other rigging options to leave in the car if I’m plugging/jigging.) ———— I think 7’ or 8’ is the max practical length for a rod to go on your back which means using two of that length. Otherwise, the shorter 7 footer comes off the backpack & the longer one goes on once you rotate. That’s the conundrum. Given- I didn’t do much to really try this out besides walking around my driveway & coming to that conclusion. I do think you could get used to it but I suspect a 7 & under or an 8’ stiff/fast action rod will give the smallest headaches on the backpack. I definitely wouldn’t stash a prerigged 9-10’ combo back there and then what’s the point? I’m not usually interested in completely rerigging the whole thing unless I have to. (and if you accidentally or purposely wade deep, that reel on your back better be capable of taking a dunk.)
