One that really hung on was that bass don't eat poppers at night. They do :)

Yep, was always told that growing up, topwater plugs are for daytime. Then one night I was fishing down the beach from these two guys, I was having no luck and I could see they were catching. Then I see they are using poppers so I switched it up and starting catching too.

I talked to them a little later and they just laughed at the old rule about poppers at night. "this is fishing, there are no rules"

I'd rather fish a falling tide right to the bottom than a rising tide to the top ALMOST all of the time :)

I agree with our Humble Head Tyrant on this one!!!

The old timers i knew always said tins were ineffective at night. Admittedly i gave them no due diligence at night (against my naturally curious nature) for almost 20 years. Then..

One of the best week long night bites I've ever been on came from a back breaking 130 cranks cast out to the edge of a mussel bed by Gurneys. Big fish. If you didn’t get struck the first couple cranks, the rest was just exercise. The only thing i could deliver to the catch zone was the largest Deadly Dick in the arsenal . Lesson learned.

Both aren't always leader-shy, but sometimes can be extremely so.

That’s the problem with so many myths and the people disproving them. They think catching a bass or two proves that they aren’t shy about leaded or wires or gigantic snaps or whatever else. What they don’t realize is there are guys out there catching 30…40…or 100 bass a night taking into consideration all the things that bother bass. If your goal is to catch the dumbest fish in a school, keep thinking they don’t care about anything. If you wanna catch 30 fish outta that school, start with the premise that they care about EVERYTHING :)

Same with albies and bones…catching one or two doesn’t mean you wouldn’t have caught ten or fifteen with 20# fluoro.

Clips spook fish, you need to tie direct.  Sure............ The fish is going to be spooked by a tiny paperclip attached to the ring on the lure, but ignore the treble hooks hanging off its butt end.

I've heard this many times with albie fisherman.

For pan fishing I’ve started using a micro TA clip for my crappie baits and they couldn’t care less... When you don’t know what they want it’s nice to be able to switch out fast until you find the color or style they want. Panfish aren’t the smartest fish but they can get picky sometimes but the clip doesn’t make any difference.

You won't catch bass with a wire leader. I knew guys that only used wire leaders for bass.

Not even true for tarpon, at least at night. Bait or lures.
