Interesting , I usually   call it after November. I have only been out 6 times , due to health and Hip issues.  My have to ride the beaches, any size?

Not huge. Mostly schoolies but a few in the slot. A buddy had one well into the slot. Who knows if anything big is left but I have nothing better to do than find out.
 

All the fish are very fat and very iridescent. Not sure why that is but they’re extra pretty.

Nice, and thanks for the report. I did watch a few boats on webcam, below Portland.  I have gotten a few November fish, maybe this year as well.

At this point I’m mostly just curious about how late they’ll be here. It’d be cool to get one in November.

You can get holdovers as well. I know people going after sea runs that have caught them in February, roughly.

I will say that the fishing seems to be getting better north of Portland. I know people who have been getting Stripers on the Penobscot, inj the Old Town area the last few years. Thats about 40 miles inland, a lot of tidal water.

I’ve wondered what our hold over population really looks like. I know one guy who starts his season in April with hold overs.

Reminds me of the killer smallmouth fishing we’d get in Pennsylvania in the dead of winter around the power plants. Dead of winter in PA is a little different than Maine obviously but still.

The big river between Maine and NH has been known to have some warm spots as well. The smallmouth fishing in Maine is absolutely killer. Trout, salmon, bass, just all very good.

Hooked 3 sturgeon after work yesterday in between my 2 mid 20” bass. The one I got in had to be 60” long was hooked in the mouth then the bucktail popped and snagged him again in the tail. Hearty bastards swak off with a big kick once I got him undone. Nice way to break in the new rod… Will be happy to not catch another till next year.

They are loving chunk macks this morning from the beach. 5 slots, 3 over and a couple dinks before afternoon. Its heating up faster than expected around there.
