Fabulous ling cod jigging out of Icy Bay Lodge, AK

We went to legendary offshore spot where I got 270 lb halibut on a jig a few years ago.

Sadly there are no more big halibut, but big ling cod are plentiful.

I got 54 nice ling cod on jigs in 4 hours fishing.

Rego and Bob never fished ling cod before and they are very happy to land big ling cod on jigs.

Kilsong, were you jigging with your preferred IRT reels, or did you go conventional?

I use both.

Nice.  I just got back from Kenai Pen. about a week ago.   Did more fresh water fishing for trout and salmon, but did spend 1 day halibut fishing.   We did not have the level of activity you did.

Wed is non-halibut day in Alaska. It means you can not target halibut on Wed.

So we went black bass fishing and we went for sightseeing after we limited out black bass.

Halibut jigging again today.
We went to same spot as we got lots of halibut a few days ago.
Fishing was a little slow by their standard, but I caught 44 haliibut on jigs and released 42 and other anglers did as well. :)
No big halibut this time. We will try halibut on jigs tomorrow.

Relaxed jiggiing on a chair. :)

Do you do any Salmon or freshwater fishing while there?

King salmon fishing has been slow.

I go back again in Sept to catch coho salmon in the river.

Today was the final day at Icy Bay Lodge, AK. We fished halibut closer to the lodge. After we caught many dogfish and halibut fishing slowed down, we moved to the spot where we fished yesterday.

I released 33 halibut and kept two. We didn't land a monster halibut and the biggest was about 40 lb.

I used only 5 oz Al Gag jigs with 6'8" Black Hole Kayaker rod and IRT 500 DD reel. It was so much fun to catch 10 - 40 lb halibut with such light takcle in 60' water.
