Bunker have been thick

Went out on Friday and the Bunker were everywhere but could not get a bass to bite. Today they were back and I decided to snag one with a jig and throw it on a circle hook and boy am I glad I did. This is the biggest fish I have ever caught, and as a paraplegic, it was quite the fight! I was so concerned about getting it back in the water I did not think to throw a tape on it.

Thank you both! I am paralyzed from chest level down with almost no abdominal strength, on pretty light inshore gear it was very tough.

I'm not sure if this is still legal but we once 

could snag a bunker and just let it drop for WSB 

to pick it off.  Essentially it cuts out the middle man (circle hook) 

and you can fish more efficiently.....just don't let the bass swallow the

snap hook. 

....my bad if it's not legal anymore.

I havent seen any bunker south of portland, I am assuming you are north of portland?

Not legal if you want to keep a fish, since bass caught on baited non-circle hooks have to be returned...

 

Not ethical if you want to protect them.  The risk of gut hooking is higher with the bunker snag...

South of Portland, I fish in the Piscataqua.
