I have a small black wood pencil that I really never fish. Thinking about painting it white to use more early morning or sunset.
go with white or some other color?

anyone actually fish black. I’ve tried a few times to fish it at night but didn’t get anything. To be honest I haven’t given it the time I give other plugs.

Black back / silver belly catches ALL the time for me.   It's right next to my yellow over white.   Poppers at night will generally not work for you.  I used yellow/white on sunny days.  Black / silver on the overcast days.

Good opportunity to funk it up.  Go nuts on the color.  Topwater colors don't matter as much as subsurface.

Pencil’s are about commotion-noise-splash. Adding light reflection is good. You can find Chrome spray from a few of the high end mfg’s. Might be a worthwhile experiment. Probably cost less than most of todays custom lures. Post a pix when you get the big one.
