Roller guides on light rod?

Rate this topic

Anyone using any rods rated for 30lb test and under with Aftco roller guides? If so how do they compare with traditional guides? Does the rod cast well with them? I'm building a rod rated for 15-30 for the boat and I'm considering these guides. Thanks, Mike

Mike I remember seeing an article in South Coast Sportfishing Magazine (Baja and Southern California fishing). They were casting jigheads with conventionals and I dont remember seeing a difference as big as expected between AFTCO ligth roller guides and regular guides. I think that for the type of casts used in boat applications, ther are fine. If you are still interested in more information I can check that article for you and send you the precise information.

MIKE,

There is no real advantage to using a roller tip unless you plan on using the rod for tuna or some other fish that is capable of taking a few hundred yards of line real quick. I would stick to a regular tip with a good drag.
