Been a long  time since we’ve had blues this size in the bay.  We had a blue entered into our club contest that was over 38 inches. High teens.

I have rarely seen blues of this size consistently in the bay.

No signs of bait or birds but we did mark some fish today fishing out front off Newport.

It was consisting catching all morning but the rate was about 1 fish every 15 minutes.

We only had two doubles, but most of the time we hooked up one fish on a complete drift.

All toll with two anglers 30 stripers, more tog... this time 6 blackfish, no scup or bluefish.

Every other place we stopped along the way traveling was completely dead.

We did have one around 30 inches caught by Mario, but all the rest were cookie size stripers.

Went out late ~11pm-2am with a close friend on Monday night to throw some eel colored Sluggos around. Between the 2 of us we had an easy dozen each. All slots except the one 25lber I put up 3rd cast into the outing. She was released safely to continue on with her migration

Dropped a very large fish, never close enough to know if a bass or a blue.

... Sea Robin of a lifetime! :)

I might have to dust off the kayak and get in on this gator action!

Thursday....... It was a nice way to end their vacation visit to Rhode Island. Kelly and Derek Wiley, all the way from Oregon spent two days on the ocean, fly fishing for stripers. Here’s a synopsis of their second day. What a way to end a vacation and bring back many wonderful memories.

One again there were never any natural sights of birds flying, squawking, or any bait to be seen.

So our game plan was not making any milk stops along the way, but get to our prime destination as soon as possible. The rip started to develop very quickly with a southeast blow. It started really slow for the 1st hour, than we started to pick up interment strikes. It pulse back and forth all morning with periods of off and on activity. Today became special when Team Kelly and Derek released four quality stripers all around the 15 lbs. size. Our totals for the day tabulated to maybe 24 stripers, and our share of tautog again. It was lots of fun and enjoyment watching the long runs into the backing fighting these fish in the current. Kelly got baptized with bruises on her fingers from spinning reel handles. There were lots of good memories and photos to take home to share and remember their 1st trip to RI.

Drove out to East beach yesterday evening.

Lots of weed but a walk East found some more fishable water.

Found some very picky smaller fish in the wash that were just slapping at whatever I threw.

Took a skunk home.
