This sub carries the torpedo that detonates a nuclear warhead right on the surface near land to create a “radioactive tsunami.” I had not heard of that before

I wouldn’t be surprised, or impressed really.  There’s been all sorts of ways to commit mass destruction for the last 70 years.  I suspect MSN getting excited about a new weapon, based on an idea kicked around for decades, has more to do with selling sensational headlines than introducing an actual game changer.

Putin has shot his wad of terror already.  All he has left is shooting his mouth of, and his proxies with him, about using some sort of nuclear weapon.  An act which would likely put his nation at risk of destruction where failure in Ukraine presents zero such risk.

No one in their right mind wants to be stuck occupying Russia and dealing with those people.  In fact, on the whole, they’d rather deal with a strong,

peaceful Russia instead of a bunch of pathetic wannabes letting their strongmen play tough guy.  They’d rather stroke their egos with conquest than make the effort to build a nation.

Conspiracy theories and partisan nonsense that benefit Russia by introducing moral relativism and muddying the waters, in a situation where one country is brutally attacking another in an imperial war of expansion.

Hunter wasn't doing business in Ukraine and the Pentagon didn't after first denying, we have bio-research labs in Ukraine and the Pandora Papers didn't dig into Zelensky...sure thing.

The left: Washington laundering money through Ukraine is a loony right wing conspiracy.

Also the left: Russian collusion is real.

That was tens of thousands of dead and unspeakable horrors ago.

Anything Leftists don't want to really know the truth about falls into the alt-Right/Right Wing "Conspiracy Theory" bucket, folks they disagree with are some kind of ist or phobe, wash, rinse, repeat same tired playbook.

Fark um I'm going to keep rubbing their noses in it. ~

A thought .... the NYT is quoting a military writer in the Russian newspaper, which was allowed to publish without censorship, saying that the Russian troops who fled Lyman did so with "empty eyes." They were described by the writer in the paper (Komsomolskaya Pravda) as hungry and disorganized.

Of itself, this isn't news. The Russians falling back before Ukraine's eastern advance have been collapsing as much as retreating, routed even when the Kremlin says a tactical withdrawal is being arranged. What interests me is that these reports are being allowed in mainstream Russian publications.

Does this reflect an emerging consensus within the Russian elite that public awareness of failure is necessary before Russia withdraws, and (perhaps) Putin retires due to his health? Bloggers, many of them quite vitriolic over Russian Army institutional failures, have no problem making themselves heard. Ramadan Kamyrov, master of poor tortured Chechnya and previously a Putin ally (and very prominent) is hugely critical of the Russian high command. Another Russian celebrity proposed giving Russia's senior generals a light machine gun and sending them forward in bare feet. So why is this public criticism being allowed? Independent news sources are shut down, but now bitter commentary is percolating through State media. What's up?

The paper's full of the bodies of Russian dead, discarded by the roadside. They look like bundles of mislaid laundry. I can feel for them, as well as the civilians they've brutalized.

Sure. The genesis of the Ukraine war is V. Putin. No one else, nothing else, but he'd appreciate it if you spread stories to the contrary.

Besides all the dead and their families on BOTH sides, feel sorry for the members of the 20 something population of Russia who could not defect like the technical and medical, etc. population that could.  Those poor kids are suddenly finding out that Putin recreated everything bad about the Soviet Union, but none of the good (Socialist) programs that at least existed as part of Communism - instead, they are left with a totally bankrupt capitalist economy and a tanked currency.  Sad to say, but at this point they would be better off economically if they were still communist, not to mention the fact that the Politiboro never would have let Putin pull this S++t.

Unbelievable that we heaved a sigh of relief in the DoD when the Berlin wall fell, and now we are wondering every day if the nut jobs in Moscow will completely lose their minds that day.

Of all you guys on the Putin appeasement bandwagon, how many want to go on record with ...

1.  Should we abandon South Korea?

2.  Should we abandon Taiwan?

3.  Should we exit NATO?

I'm not shaming, I'm curious what you think the US should invest in preserving those things and how you think it'll eventually impact our security if we walk away from them.

And what would happen if we did?

Is someone going to attack the US?

We have one of the strongest militaries in the world.

I seem to recall you being the PG’s most staunch deficit hawk.

Protecting the world has contributed mightily to that $30tt deficit we currently have.

It’s time for the rest of the world to step up.

Establish a false sense of acceptance of opposition before those that openly oppose are rounded up and removed.

I wonder how the Russian conscripts will fare once winter arrives?

I read somewhere that they are not being issued winter uniforms.

1.5 million winter uniforms “disappeared” from a Russian warehouse. This kind of corruption is common in Russia. They were likely paid for and never produced while the officials and the supplier pocketed the money.

They supposedly do the same with ammo and conscripts rarely get to fire live ammo during training. The conscripts are often “lent” to farms and factories and the officers pocket the pay.

Life in a kleptocracy…
