You ever say "no more" to tackle?

ask a woman, ever got enough clothes, shoes, bags?
then add in XYZ high end brand name prefix before said item.

think theyll say no to it? even if they got ten of them already.

keep on shopping, offer the old gear on the BST, get usage funds back, why worry?

Enter the store of a fishing tackle retailer.

Go around the lures several times.

Do not forget the small equipment.

Come back to see the lures.

Tell yourself that this one might be the new champion.

Hesitate. And if this one was good too, it is also a good brand.

Leave with six lures.

Oops, not seen. 15 dollars a lure.

Go home.

Put the lures in the box for the next fishing trip.

Try for five minutes.

Be doubtful.

And finally end up fishing with the same lure over and over again.

To have a huge pile of new lures and to fish only with lures having almost no colors, scratched everywhere, with broken rings almost open and triple hooks almost at the vertical because they are so twisted...

We are all like that...

I haven't bought a rod or a reel since 2018.  If something breaks, I will replace it.  Other than that, I'm done.  I threw out a 5 gallon bucketful of out-of-favor soft plastics a couple days ago... tossed about 50 plugs last year... only stuff that gets used gets kept, anymore.

I am this way with 2 or 3 other hobbies I have.  Much more focus and control.  Fishing... its a zoo.

... and the thing is aI give away stuff practically every time I go out.  If I see a kid or a newb, they get something from me.

HOW'd this HAPPEN!?

My top walleye spot is like the trailer park redneck version of the Cape Cod Canal.

Guys snag their last bait and I'll hand them a new rig. Or if I'm hot on a certain color combo I will give out plastics if I have some left.

Bought a lot of good will and gotten me out of some hairy situations, but hasnt made much of a dent in the massive pile of tackle I have.

There is no such thing as too much tackle. Went into cabelas because I had 75 dollars in gift cards and figured “I’ll just get some rapalas and maybe some new line.” I walked out of there with a new musky rod, nearly 75 dollars worth of baits (a bulldawg, a 7” suick, a shadow rap shad, and a clam jigging minnow), and a spool of line I won’t need for another year. I was about $175 over budget. I shouldn’t be allowed in a tackle shop unsupervised the way I buy fishing gear lol. It will all get used eventually, be it tomorrow or 10 years down the road. At least that’s what I tell myself

Here’s the deal-

i have been surf fishing for the last 42 years. When I look at all the fishing gear, tackle,  lures I have accumulated- At this point I realize that I have more fishing crap than I will ever use in my lifetime. When I walk into a bait shop I still feel “the want” but, not “the need”. If I pick up a new lure it would probably be a triplicate of something I already have. “Too much is never enough” but, at some point you just have to say: no. I  have arrived at that point.

when I drop dead my wife is going to make a score on the garage sale she holds to get rid of my fishing stuff. She had no idea how much stuff costs. If she sells a Van Staal for $25 bucks you know I will be spinning.

So, yes, you can reach a point where you just say no. You just have to reach that age first.

On my first proper surf fishing trip in over 2 years, and showed up thinking “I’ve got everything I need, I shouldn’t have to buy much”. Then I have a good night on a plug I only hand one of, then had to buy more. Then a bunch plugs I had got busted up and had mangled hook hangers, had to buy more. Then I did well on a plug that isn’t available anymore, and the last 2 I have are mangled, so trying to figure out a good alternative. I want it to end but I don’t think it ever will.

I can not walk into a tackle shop without dropping some $$.

That would be a sin.

I have more tackle than I could use … the rods are multiplying in their rod racks …I started refurbishing some old reels and they are perfect … only line gets replaced …one of the biggest fears I have is when I die she sells the tackle for what I told her I paid for it …lol lol lol

Tinman might be a little prejudiced and probably has more than any of us. What might be helpful is if we could find a source to donate some of our excess. Maybe a fishing club for kids or Scouts as stated previously I have more than I'll ever use.

I have broken my fishing bag down to a few simple things.   Bucktails, wood swimmers,  sp / hydro minnow and a pencil and littleneck popper.    With the exception of  sp / hydro minnow or whatever the hot year to year plug is I make all the others in small batches and never overboard.  This has really leaned out my tackle.  I wish however I could say the same for fishing rods.   I need to start parting ways with some of these.

I’ll agree I may be prejudiced but it doesn’t mean I’m wrong.
I have donated to clubs for kids in the past and will continue to do so.  It’s a good thing to do.
