Tuning metal lips.

Tuning metal lips, it aint rocket science or is it..

Each plug has a sweet spot for tuning on top or sub surface.

Like to point out that lips may be over bent tossing them out of tune

You can bend a lip up and eye down and keep a plug on top. But go to far and its a mess.

When you must bend the lip , bent it so slightly to tune the plug.

Dont get caught into over bending

Yes you got it on top but now there is to much roll and roll out.

Tune the plug with the eye and then lip to get what you're after..

More on swimming these plugs.

And working them.

I'm a total tuning noob and still trying to make a plug that swims on top without being a total turd.
I have a bunch of swimmers that either swim but dive or stay near to top and just flutter.

Where you live,

You need to look at your lure and figure weight placement and lip size placement angle of lip, and not to mention type of wood

If you figure this out it will make you 2 things

A better builder and fisherman

@bassmaster  thank you for taking the time to share, although I know some of the basics of tuning- all the other topics that you mentioned along the way were really helpful- like for example the topic of ‘roll’ that you touched on was really helpful. I really appreciate you sharing your insight! Metal lips are my fav and being a rookie builder - I was able to gain some great insight and learn a lot!

when you have a moment, and if your interested in sharing, I would be great and helpful to many  to see some swim test videos of plugs with a commentary explaining the pros and cons of the swim

thanks again
