see what I wrote before.

Do you think I should get a new setup? It does feel kind of heavy and my shoulder still hurts. Or is that the line?

Unless you're fishing for tarpon get a 5 or 6 weight.......what do you have now?

I would not buy anything new before I got a new fly line that will load that rod correctly..

I'm not a line snob, so find a good saltwater one that is designed for cold water.. not the tropics..  I use RIO intermediate for up here.  I also got a spool change if I want to use floating line.

I have a 5 for fresh and 9 for saltwater. I’m more concerned with the saltwater setup which is a st croix premier and reddington 9/10. The reel seems clunky. I’m used to fishing too of the line surf gear which makes things more enjoyable for me so I figure the same must be true with fly outfits.

don't worry about the reel until you get your casting done right.  you can use your hands as drag if needed.. :bucktooth:

no.

get a line first.

You can always buy a rod later and use that line.  You want 9 weight for the rivers and surf... imho...
