What do you do to measure your fish?

I premeasure points on the rods I use. They are all on a laminated card in my center console. I just take a quick look at the info for the rod I'm going to work with. Butt to reel stem, butt to end of fore grip, and butt to any nomenclature markings on the rod. Eyeballing in between is fairly easy. For a handy device, use a dollar bill. They are 6" long.

Bump board and/or those tape measures you find at any tackle shop.  The tape is also good for measuring girth on the big'uns.

Mark my rod with a paint marker. As well as  a piece of paracord cut to size for the fish that need more precise measurements. Burn the ends of the paracord to stop fraying. Tip use bright color cord it’s easier to find in your bag

I use medical tape to mark the keeper size limit of what fish I’m targeting onto my rod, It’s quick and easy , lay the fish next to the rod and bam done!

I always try to keep a dollar bill in my pocket.  US paper currency is 6 inches long.  It will definitely bail you out if you forget your measuring tape.

Paint pen. I very rarely keep any but when I do it's nice to have the measurements there. I mark all of my surf rods at 50", just in case.20220426_004656.jpg.ecb876550829643f07a1fbfa7a7f043d.jpg

No such thing as 'shrinkage'. If it's short, it's short. There aren't any exceptions.

Stripers can shrink 1/2in as tail dries.
