Cpl thoughts.

March tends to be the windiest month of the year here in New England. Some years, winter-like atmospheric patterns persist over North America through April. That's largely what's been going on, imo, and this setup has driven some of the windy weather we've had recently.

Back in March, the Polar Vortex had a fairly strong end-of-season disruption. Sometimes these disruptions promote colder than average weather across parts of North America and Europe. That appears to be the case this go-around, as much colder than average weather dipped deep into central US this month

Along with colder conditions came increased risk for storm formation. The result has been several large cyclones, and a very active jet stream overhead. Here on the ground, that means wind. Especially for us on the warm side of these storms, as we get the warm southerly jet to start, then backside of cold NW winds afterwards

Big dip in jet stream

So: what's in store for the rest of the month?

Welp..does not look like an overly warm signal. Will likely be brief warm-ups followed by mostly ave/cool conditions. My guess is the 2nd half of the month will end up less windy than 1st half though

Is April the new March?

Windy as hell again today.

It's a fickle month to be sure.

Can see 90, yet often still see frost. And a few spits of snow are tbe.

April showers? Or rainy April sog-fest.

Southeastern Mass has to be one of the windiest highly populated places in the country. We have the perfect setup for wind and high wind low pressure systems.

Yes and it’s really starting to suck.

Was gonna plant some herbs yesterday in the garden but

was warned of a frost, so I didn't.

Guess I'll have to checkout the nighttime temperature values

for the next ten days.

March is supposed to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb.

Where's my friggin' lamb?  Huh?

Z,

It's gotta be a climate change deal.

I've lived here since '79, and it seems the wind gets worse each year. Esp the last three.

Years ago, I'd be fly fishing midge hatches by now, but how can you fly cast into a 30mph wind?

BTW, the wind was blowing so hard last night, it blew my back door open! The door was locked, and the crazy wind we had last night blew it open.

You're not wrong.

So what scientific American says is fact?

I don’t need what they say to make me believe. Religiously watching national weather on a daily basis for over 40 years and my own observation makes it true. There is definitely more wind more often. Fact.

Today was incredibly windy but i was catching fish like crazy. It was cold as well but when your catching fish the weather does not seem that bad.

Not to mention the wind sucks and ruin fishing, trying to do simple things in my backyard sucked too in these winds too, and I live in the city.
