My current targets. Honestly I’d probably let that 8 walk at this point. Although give it a couple weeks and that could change. I’ll hunt archery all the way through December. Only thing that would change that would be a rainy/snowy day, in which case I’d get out to a couple of spots that aren’t local to stalk with the shotgun.

The unfortunate part is that I could show you more pictures of local kids walking through the woods, from the same camera, than deer. I’ve had a few pictures of them mooning my camera too…

This guy posted these to Facebook a couple days back on a nationwide group. There are some serious deer in MA… just have to put in the work and get a little lucky too.

Just went out back to check the cam, scrape was dead so I figured there’d be nothing on the cam. I was wrong…

Here is my experience.  I only hunt public land.  Me and my buddies started killing as many does as we had tags for about 7 or 8 years ago.  Since about 5 years ago the quality and quantity of really nice bucks has gone up.   I am having my best year as far as sightings go, I have yet to sit without seeing deer.   Usually if we take 25 trips 10 -15 we wouldn’t see any deer.   In the last 3 years I have killed some great 130” + class Deer, and some 130”+ with one going 154”.  Previous to our settling I. On does the average buck we would see was about 80-90”. We have been hu ting the same spot for 15-17 years

JTR, that 10 is one of the most symmetrical deer I’ve ever seen. Wow

It’s an incredible deer. I have an idea of the general area it came from, which has produced monster deer over the years, including at one time a state record I believe.

I have to imagine that that deer is close to any typical record the state has ever seen.

That’s interesting. Have y’all been seeing more bucks cuz you've figured the area out better over those years? (I.E. moved stand locations, found big beds, etc). Or is it because the ratio makes for better hunting?

I think it’s from the doe situation.  We used to see large doe groups 7+ now it’s usually a single or 2 or 3.   It causes them to spread around more there the bucks have to really work at it, keeping on the move more and longer

When I first started hunting most everyone from your neck of the woods would come out here to hunt. Any place you could pull a vehicle off the road would have someone parked there. Now it should be the other way around.

I agree with this strategy. 1:1 ratio is ideal. Ma is way out of wack.
