I usually only carry a few lures: plastic minnow 6-7" that dives to 3ft. A 5" chug-type popper that floats. A couple of bucktails 3/4 to 1oz with curl-tail trailers.

I fish river mouths with sandy bottoms so rarely lose a lure but carry a spare minnow just in case. I also don't need to cast more than 50 yards.

I will probably swap the popper for a waking minnow because I get more bites just sloshing it through the water as opposed to aggressively popping it.

Years ago I used to carry a big surf bag with a bunch of lures I never used.  Now its a small fanny pack with about half a dozen options.

I agree! It’s much easier to organize and bring the essentials, rather than weigh yourself down with too much stuff. For me, I’d say about a half dozen to a dozen (give or take) is ideal. Two lures I  never leave out are a white bucktail with a trailer and a SS little neck 2 3/8 sinking.

I always have a hobkins/tin , a diawa minnow, some plastic a few buck tails , some gulp/otter , leader, swivels , snaps  and a leather man ..  I don’t bring the kitchen sink .. you have folks measuring the weight of a reel , carrying a full back pack and waders. I don’t understand that thinking ..lol lol lol …

I try to streamline my carry bag according to various conditions. My truck, well let's not talk about my truck.
