NLBN Shads and Jig Heads

Will someone please tell me what is so great about these shads.  Stock price is $9.99 for 3 shads and 8-10$ or 2 jig heads.

I will admit I did buy a pack just to see what all the hoopla is but I have hundreds of shads.  So this is a 'let's see if this works better'.

Also, Whats people's feeling regarding the NLBN on a standard jig head vs the NLBN.  DO they believe the water displacement will be different.  I will post pictures in a few.

Proof of fish-catching

Social media marketing

NLBN is, without question, the single best marketing effort I have seen for anglers on social, particularly Instagram. Their tails catch fish, lots of snook, jacks, reds, etc down in the SE. The NLBN "story" in Instagram can line up 20+ photos of anglers with their catches. Then there are the limited edition color drops on Fridays (still Friday?) which causes more interest.

Local shop near me tried to replicate the mold and the action of those tails. After months of trying, and putting out an OK product, they decided to just give in and carry the NLBN line.

I own them in six or more colors and two or three different jug sizes. I prefer them to Hogys which have been my favorite for years. As long as you don't get bitten off, a bluefish or spanish mac can hit a NLBN and you can get back the head, maybe even the tail which can be repaired with superglue or their repair glue. Have same fish hit a Hogy and tear the plastic covering the head and that lure is done.

My $0.02

FWIW, I think that big eye can make a difference. In plug and fly design, incorporating a big eye is always desirable. Not too many jig heads, particularly DIY, offer such eyes.

These work but so will other standard paddle tails, it's really a hype lure like @flyangler said. Gambler big GZ catches the same as these etc, but they've made a social media footprint where people will try and get reposted etc. on their instagram for extra social media brownie points, unique 'drops' with limited availability etc. etc.

As for replicating you can easily make a plaster/silicone mold of these since they're open poured and it'll just be 5% smaller and fish exactly the same. Also, smaller jighead won't matter it will still catch basically the same.

If you are inclined and have the tools and supplies, you can absolutely make your own and most fish won't mind.

But, could you make a purple that coordinates with my bling rod so well?

You aren't afraid of getting robbed with all that beach bling? Bold man.

BTW, when SE Florida has the minnow run in the coming weeks and the wind is blowing on the beach, you have to get small and heavy and the white Hogy 4" in 1 or 1.5 ounce cannot be beat.

Very difficult for a separate paddle tail and jig to get to 1oz or more and not be 5-6" long. And when the tarpon are keyed on those small baits, they can get very picky. Been there, know that.

That knocks the NLBN out of contention.

@flyangler I don't think the nlbn purple even does your bling justice lol

well, until someone comes up with a color-shifting pattern, that is as close as I could come.

No, not at all.

The beaches in Juno and Jupiter are civilized places where beach crime is unheard of. Also, that rod never leaves my hands when I take it out which is when sharks or tarpon are very possible. Otherwise, a "cheaper" Century paired with a VR on most days outside of summer.

The only place we worry about gear is if you are leaving it unattended while fishing the jetty or pumphouse at Palm Beach Inlet. A little bit of a different crowd down there and gear has vanished when not paying attention. While I have never seen it, have heard stories of guys running off with gear bags, back packs and that "spare" rod you left in a spike while you were down by the water. I don't include that combo on any day that I carry two rods, for exactly that reason.

As for being physically robbed, like at knife point, never heard of such a thing happening down here in our area. I also carry a full size dive knife very prominently on my Batman utility belt so anyone that wants to make a go of it would have to think twice.

I have heard that theft is an issue at other inlets, with a few stories about Sebastian. But that is third hand at best.

Yes, this is interesting.. I think Social Media is taking over.  I can't see Why this is the SHAD any different than any other shad.

@flyangler unfortunately you probably have to pour your own or get some custom made then but they sell 'color' shift pigment powders you can make plastics with and they look almost as cool as the setup does
