Does anyone know if Capitol Tackle in Manhattan is still open? I tried calling and their phone is "temporarily disconnected"

A lot of their business probably came from commuters and now there are not nearly as many commuters coming into the city every day.

Sad, they were the best when in the Chelsea Hotel, give or take thirty years ago and then moved near there recently but it was a step downhill. The close out deals I scored in the old store were frightening. Salt water Rapalas for a buck and Diawa graphite fly rods for 10. Ok the Rapalas don’t cast like SP minnows but still what the heck. Fly rods continue casting like champs. Long live local business but sadly those days are long gone.

I had read, just before Sea aisle closed, that Capital would be moving and reopening in Sea Isle’s location in Freeport.

That was months ago. Since then I have not heard or read anything else on the subject.

I just heard last night that they're moving into the location in Freeport that had long been occupied by Sea Isle Tackle, which shut down a while ago.

Yup. I passed by Freeport location few weeks ago and it looked like they were fixing up the shop.

I used to visit them there next to the Chelsea Hotel when I lived in the city in the 90’s.  Loved them.

I was shopping at Capitol in the late 1960's just living a block away on 22nd Street.  I bought my first Abu 6000 there for plugging for stripers in Montauk. What a candy store.
